New post, as they have really expanded this from my last visit 2 years ago. Now the dining area is much bigger. Simple Menu for about $30, shrimp creole and shrimp and grits were amazing, as well as about $20 for a dozed raw oysters that are SO fresh! Beer and wine were super reasonably priced! Loved the staff. (We ate at the bar). This is a Homer Must-do!

Below is from 2 years ago: The front of the building is a “kiosk-like”, small facade for a shop that sells great frozen seafood for reasonable prices. You walk by this on your way to the Broken Oar seafood/oyster restaurant. Very nice owner/manager.
The “Broken Oar” is the small bar and a window to get your amazing seafood and drinks and eat outside on the casual outdoor patio with the amazing views. Sit a bit back from the point as it’s warmer and less windy!
As for the overall experience…this is now my new favorite place, on earth, for seafood. Yes we dropped $100 on
Oyster raw
Oyster rocker feller
Peel your own shrimp
Steamer calms
Toasted bread
By the ocean
Sunny day
Heaven.

Just finished a fantastic meal at The Broken Oar. One of the best meals we've had in Alaska! Amazing seafood dishes prepared right in front of you. Top flight cuisine at very affordable prices.

I’d been wanting to try the Broken Oar Oyster Bar for a while, and it ended up being the biggest surprise of our trip! Beyond the fresh oysters, the entrées were absolutely incredible. The highlight was a rich, flavorful lobster broth with perfectly cooked seafood—one of the most delicious dishes I’ve ever had. Such a treat to find this level of food in Homer. Warm service, great atmosphere, and food that truly exceeded expectations. Can’t wait to come back!

Server was extremely rude. One person’s food took over an hour but we saw 2 people behind us get their order of the same thing. When we went to ask they gave us a bunch of attitude and said “we can’t cancel the order because we just started making it.” Paid $30 for 4 shrimp and 2 scallops in a plate of tomato soup. Mid food for an extremely high price. The oysters were fine but expensive.

A trip to Homer would NOT be complete without at least one meal at the Broken Oar (Kachemak Shellfish Growers)!! Great atmosphere, amazing food, wonderful stafff......the whole gamut. The Shrimp & Grits is currently the favourite for me AND my 5-year old grandson. The Creole is also great, and the Oysters.......WOW! I'll be back!

Probably the best oysters ive had, Kodiak oysters happen to be the raw they currently have. We have already been there twice and will go 2 more times before we leave. Hatch chili baked oysters, wow! Shrimp and grits excellent as well. So good I bought a freaking hat.
It is small so waiting is pretty common to get a spot unless you are good to go outside

Charming little bar with a nice selection of fresh seafood. Had the peel-yourself shrimps (for the first time, what a mess, but what fun it was!) and the crème Brulee (to die for). But was delicious and the staff was super friendly and I highly appreciated their patience handling those silly questions of mine (stupid tourist).

Growing up in the PNW, this is some of the best seafood I've ever had. Their baked oysters are phenomenal, the rockfish civeche is amazing, crab cakes are delicious, and the steamer clams are spectacular.

The staff was friendly and clearly focused on delivering the best cooked seafood possible.

The only, very minor thing I could even say is the steamer clams could have used a bit more white wine in the broth. However, I can just as easily say that's a me thing when I make them.

Regardless, this is the best food you'll find in Homer, so much so that you'll go back for a second night like I plan to tomorrow!
