Everything was much better than I expected based on the reviews I read. The Caesar salad, short rib bolognese and elk meatloaf were terrific and the service was good.
Food was cold, smores dessert was just marshmallows with chocolate syrup
Waited 20 minutes for water, waited 30 for our ticket, finally had to go find waiter & get it.
Told him he needed help he said no, so to me he’s greedy.
Over priced n cold food

View of Denali was exceptional. However, service was extremely bad. We had to wait over 2 hrs for our food. Waitress never checked on us, we had to chase her down twice, other waiters once each, head waitress, finally manager. Nothing offered that wasn’t already part of our meal voucher. They couldn’t even offer another drink. Wasn’t worth the 18% tip that was automatically included as part of the voucher. Take the shuttle and go into town. We had much better service at one of the local establishments.

Atmosphere was wonderful but service was terrible! Food was mediocre and you would expect better for the price!

We ate a number of meals here and had excellent service for them all. Yolanda was friendly and took care of us. The hostesses at the front went above and beyond with our “to go” orders (so we could eat in the main lobby closer to fire). The bar tender was great, acknowledged new customers immediately and got drinks quickly. And of course the food was delicious! Just before we left we all ordered five more bowls of that delicious seafood chowder! Highly recommend!!

Basic Cafe decor. Manufactured wood tables, no table cloths. Chairs comfortable. Menu: limited range, burgers, chicken wings, salad etc.
Staff: Friendly and helpful.
Service: quick and efficient, only 12 minutes from ordering to receipt of food.
Food: not great, Burger was tasty, but chips were cold, leathery and "heavy". Halibut was well cooked, but sauces were bland.
Prices: fairly expensive for the quality of food ( bit this is typical for Talkeetna)

Food was pretty good but nothing to get excited about. Views are amazing. Service was among the worst I have ever experienced and when we tried to get the manager to help she was rude and implied that it was our fault that our dinner took 2+ hours for a table of 8. Took 30 minutes before they took our dinner order, 45 minutes for the food to come out, didn’t get water refills the entire meal and 20 minutes for scoops of ice cream for desert.

The restaurant has an amazing view of the mountains and the food is decent but the service is very poor. We dined in 2 times one for lunch and the other for breakfast. The lunch menu had an incorrect description for the veggie burger, the description was black bean pattie but what we got was an impossible burger. After checking with staff for a couple of times they insisted it was black bean but finally confirmed it was an impossible burger. During the breakfast we had to follow up multiple times to get a server for our table and had to wait over 30 minutes to get our food. I think it is overall poor management at the restaurant. It’s a shame because it’s a great location. The restaurant is within the Talkeetna lodge where we stayed, we enjoyed our stay at the lodge but just wouldn’t recommend dining at this restaurant.

Great food, friendly staff. Very busy and first part of the year but good job.
The fruit was fresh and the coffee was hot. I can't in good conscience recommend anything else here.

The so-called *beast burger* is not what the other people have posted. $23 + tax, do not recommend.
This was not a pleasant experience. We arrived at the hotel from the 5 PM train only to find that the shuttle would not be running to get us back to the hotel if we ate dinner in town (a 1.7 mile hike to the hotel) We opted to eat at the hotel thinking there were multiple dining options. There was not. Base Camp Bistro was the sole option and we were all in the same boat. The dining room was full as was the bar. There was over an hour wait just to be seated. We waited and were finally seated 1 1/2 hrs later. When we failed to order cocktails our server just left us sitting. When he finally took our order, the food was tasty and arrived relatively quickly. It appeared that there was sufficient staff to quickly turn tables, just not enough tables to serve the guests wanting to be fed. I understand it is the end of the season but this was very poor planning given that the train arrives at 5 pm and those guests are left with few options.
Great views overlooking the mountains here (except it was cloudy on the day we went) Very friendly server. Food was mostly delicious. My only note would be the sauce on the salmon may be a bit overpowering. Thai curry halibut was great with actual spice levels in there.
