Flying squirrel is unique and really kinda great. The might not be for everyone as some of the menu items can be friendlier to a vegan palat but I always find something I like. The food is great the ambiance is cozy and inviting. You service yourself really which is kinda nice as you can just chill and not be bothered. The pastries can challenge any other great bakery out there and if your lucky you can get them to make you a custom design. Make sure you let them know way in advance.

Such an adorable place! And many of the ingredients are organic, local, and homemade! We have the hot cereal and grilled cheese! I only wish the cheese was more gooey for the grilled cheese. All the little Bakery items and treats were very good! We just also wished they heated up the Bakery items. Overall very yummy and the Alaska Chai is a must try!

Run, don’t walk, to Flying Squirrel Bakery!!! The sandwiches were insaaaaaaane. So delicious and fresh. They have a cute little kids play area where our daughter spent a good hour “making dinner” for us in their little play kitchen. One of our favorite meals!

The espresso drinks were good, the scone was just okay, the oatmeal and breakfast sandwich were quite good. Service was meh. But, the place is real cute inside, definitely very comfortable, about 10 tables. We spent a good hour here and it would seem customer influx comes in waves. When we came in there were only a couple people here, but while we waited for our drinks, all of a sudden there was a line out the door.

Ordered a breakfast sandwich, received an unseasoned overly large omelet with nothing in it with cold ham on focaccia. Was actively bland and near unpleasant, only ate it to get energy for our hike later in the day.

Our second order never even came, and when questioned where it was, we were reassured it was on its way. 30 minutes later we asked again where our order was.... only to find our second order was given to another customer. We were given our second order finally after 45 minutes, and after all the wait, the order was wrong.

We received a half hearted apology from the owner for what that is worth.

Giving two stars as the atmosphere was cute, and there was plenty of parking.

This bakery is a real gem! Their pastries are the highlight — the kuglach is rich and flavorful, the brownies are perfectly fudgy, and the potato buns are soft and comforting. To go with it, their coffees and teas are excellent, making it the perfect spot to slow down and enjoy a treat. The cabin-like interiors give the place a warm, cozy vibe that makes you want to stay a little longer. A wonderful spot for both the food and the atmosphere!

The food here was on point. It’s everything else that fell short. After ordering we seated ourselves and didn’t wait long for the food. Many of the sandwiches are premade. . The drink took so long we could have been done with our food. Which one person in the group was. Finally the drip coffee and latte came. These came without utensils. Once you finish eating you take your food away to a clean up station. It was located in the corner of the room. It was here we also find utensils, water, cups, etc of the things you may want during a meal. Why on earth would some tip if it’s self serve, poor service for what you do, and leaving out basic information to people who don’t regular your shop. Also, I know places are using water saving faucets but when I came even wash my hands without having the other on the faucet, something is wrong. That’s not sanitary. Again the food was good but everything else fell short. I’d have taken the food to go if I had known. .

Nice place with home-made-quality bakeries and sandwiches. The place is clean and the staff is friendly. We ordered a couple if items and were impressed of the flavour and quality. It will definitely be a stop on my next trip.

The good thing is this is local. Farm to table concept but the food was mediocre. And they said everything was premade and no substitutions available. But it took such a long time to get food. We pick food up from counter and we also do nominal cleanup but putting plates and glasses away. It’s self serve mostly. Pricing of food was over the top. Not one of our favorites in AK.
