We were just in town for a few days. We love good Italian food and are spoiled in St. Louis with “The Hill” and our Italian population. I searched on line for “best Italian” in the area. I am learning not to believe all of the raving reviews. Amore was rated 5 stars by tons of people. From the “stunning ambiance” to the “intimate and romantic “. This is not 5 star dining on any level. I feel sad for people if this is the best dining experience they've ever had. The waiting area is a hodgepodge of thrift store mismatched seating. The ceiling is office tile and metal grid. The floor is fake plastic wood so slick I was afraid of falling. The waitress was pleasant. After our drink order she came to table with her pad and pencil at the ready as if we were at Denny's and said “ Are you ready to order?”. We said “ No specials?”. She then rattled off 3. A soup an app and snapper that was the same as on the menu but with the addition of one shrimp and mashed potatoes. I went with the vodka pasta with sausage and she suggested linguine instead of rigatoni. Of course it came with the rigatoni anyway. My husband ordered veal parm. It looked nothing like the pics we saw on line. Paper thin smothered in mozzarella with barely any sauce and swimming in oil. The rolls were hot and tasty. The salad okay. My pasta was decent. I make at home with Rao's and it tastes the same. People were dressed in shorts and tee shirts. This is a neighborhood joint at best. Not a 5 star dining experience. Someone had to be honest on here.
1st time last night for anniversary. Employees were all very kind and attentive. Food was delicious and you can tell made with care. Wedding soup was delicious. Veal melt in mouth tender. What I would call an old school Italian restaurant. Great food and service. Romantic decor with a Sinatra portrait above the bar and music quietly in playing in background. Best Italian food I've found in bham area.
Paul has been our server a couple of times. Not impressed at all and have requested to not sit in his section again. He forgot to put in things that we ordered, did not apologize, didn't try to make it right. Seemed put out and in a hurry. This has been our experience each time we have had him as our waiter.
My husband and I chose to celebrate our anniversary at Amore. We have been there several times for special occasions in the past and have always had excellent food and service. However, last night was not the case. I made our reservation weeks ago for the “wine bar.” I meant to say wine room. However, I didn't word it correctly. I always make our reservation for the wine room because it is much quieter than the rest of the restaurant. My husband has a difficult time hearing in other parts of the restaurant because it is so loud. We were seated in the bar area instead. I take partial blame for that. However our waiter, Paul, seemed disinterested in serving us. He asked if we were celebrating anything and when we told him our anniversary, he said join the club. He had three other tables celebrating their anniversary. We waited to order food which seemed to irritate him. Once we ordered, I asked if we could swap my husband's salad for something else since he doesn't eat salad. He offered the wedding soup and also mentioned other types of salad. So my husband ordered the soup, and I ordered a ceaser salad instead of the house salad. Once our food was served, he didn't check on us until we were close to being done. I was never asked if I wanted another cocktail. I had to ask for the cocktail menu and by the time he came to get my order, we were done with dinner. He did bring an “anniversary” dessert. But, when he brought the check we were charged an up-charge of 9.00 for the soup and 9.00 for the ceaser salad which he never mentioned when we asked if we could substitute. Between his inattentiveness and the up charges not told about, it was a disappointing evening. I forgot to mention when my husband asked about the filet, he was told they sold out the night before. I ordered the chicken piccata and was disappointed. It was missing the usual caper/lemon flavor. It was just blah. My husband ordered the chicken parmesan which was good. Maybe our expectations were too high.
Excellent food and service . I now know why the reviews are so highly rated . I had shrimp with Gorgonzola , sun dried tomatoes and white wine sauce , with pasta . My husband had lasagne . Fresh warm bread rolls and a house salad with an amazing dressing were included . For dessert I had the crème brulee with fresh berries , and he had cheesecake . Both were delicious . Our server/waiter was Steve - polished , friendly and informative and really added a big plus to our dinner experience . Will definitely be going back to be pampered . Thank you Amore for a wonderful evening .
One o the best ever restaurants we have been to. Clearly the best Italian especially for the price
In a surprising location, but truly five stars, very romantic and an amazing dinning experience. Make reservations.
Always excellent. I know quality food and service is expensive but I'm having trouble with the exorbitant prices. Most entrees $50 range and cocktails $15 (Pinot Grigio) to $18 (manhattan) range. We still love Amore and the awesome staff.
Thrilled to find this romantic restaurant. Service and food were outstanding. Highly recommend it.
The food was great. The service, not so great. The waitress that had our table took our bread plates before we ate our bread. She didn't replace my husband's knife. She couldn't remember my husband's order and had to come back to ask again. We told her that we were celebrating my husband's birthday but when the dessert arrived she wished us a happy anniversary. I give her a D+ for the night.

The food is fantastic. Best kept secret in Bham. All the service is great . The waitress we had, Alyssa, was as good a waitress as I have seen in a long time.
Last night was our first experience at Amore. We enjoyed our experience & the food was delicious. The restaurant was really dark when we first arrived, but once our eyes adjusted, we enjoyed the ambiance. We will be back!
On our way home to North Alabama after celebrating my wife's birthday at the beach, we timed our trip so we could experience Amore once again. We've dined here numerous times before, and once again, it did not disappoint. Our waiter—along with the entire staff—was friendly, attentive, and welcoming. The food was excellent, with generous portions that make each visit memorable. We're already looking forward to our next visit to Amore and its outstanding team!
Every bite was perfect from beginning to end.... Appetizer to dessert! Service was amazing snd the timing of each course coming out was great! Only down side was that we were seated at a small table for two in a private room with a larger group at a larger table. They were very loud and being in the small enclosed room it made it hard for us to communicate with each other.
Great dining Experience!! From the moment I walked in and greeted by the hostess for seating to the moment I left, extremely full and gratified!! Great presentation on the food, great delivery by the waiter, and yes it is a bit pricey but then again what isn't pricey anymore, right? I sat in the room off to the side and it was ultra quiet and quaint, a bit hard to read the menu with the limited lighting, good thing I took my reading glasses lol, but then again it gave off a fine dining quaint and romantic atmosphere. I would recommend taking your lady here for her first experience if you want that good night kiss for sure lol...Thanks for the fine dining experience!! I look forward to another visit with a date to impress for the moment!!
