So, today I tried Apple Dumpling restaurant for lunch. I thought I was being supportive. Let’s just say emphasis on “dump”! I’m harsh because the food was so not good. 😌 I got a no meat plate, with beans and rice, yams, mac-n-cheese and a cornbread muffin. 😤 the beans and rice had no discernible flavor, the yams were absolutely reheated over and over again in super sweet syrup, so they were dense and hard to chew 🫤, the Mac had some sort of weird chemical taste, and the corn muffin was salty for some reason 🤷🏾‍♂️. And all this cost me 18.99 plus tip. TRASH!! 🚮 To the owners, please read this and do better!

I've eaten here even before they moved from their Homewood location in the Palisades. I prefer breakfast here over lunch/dinner. Nothing wrong with the latter; it's just my preference. They offer a hot bar where you order from items that are hot and ready for you. I like their salmon patties and rice. The breakfast potatoes are also a favorite. The ladies are always friendly. I've stopped several times on my way to work and bought food for my teammates and they have been very accommodating with the large order. The price is very reasonable and I always enjoy my breakfast. The dinner menu is decent but I can get better soul food and desserts elsewhere. During the pandemic, they stopped customers from sitting inside to eat and I'm not sure if they have started back yet. I usually take my food to go. Overall, it's a good place to eat with fair prices and friendly staff. While I prefer breakfast, lunch and dinner are worth checking out as well.

Normally the food is great, but it was a little off...dressing wasn't the same, nor Mac ...and squash was a little bland. Will try again.

Random couple recommended this place. Got they’re Apple dumpling. Not worth $6 for this. Took 2 bites and I was done with it.
1. The dough crust is hard and doughy.
2. Looks like they put fresh can’t apple filling on the outside but the inside while Apple was overcooked, dried and mushy.
3. Taste and flavors were below average.
I’m glad I didn’t order other stuff for more disappointment.

SOUR N SPOILED FOOD. Jus like a gas station, U have to wonder if it's fresh or warmed back up from days before. I knew, just due to them closing at 4pm and 5pm, how could U sell DINNER food. Nobody's buying Soul Food, at 11am,on lunch break. ALL I ordered was the sides, I don't eat meat. The sides are BAD, I feel sorry for meat eaters. I WOULD NEVER REFER THIS , gas station food to anyone.

Went there today to check it out and support, the restaurant is clean the staff has on uniform which i like and there are plenty food options. The staff was not to much friendly no smiles. I ordered the ox tail plate with greens in Candied yams and cornbread muffins. The yams had plenty of nutmeg, but no sugar or butter. It was not sweet the oxtails were full of fat and not seasoned yet greasy. The oxtails looked like beef stew and rice. The greens although they were fresh did not have an ounce of seasoning. No flavor. Taste like it was cooked in water. I’m a cook myself and there was no meat in the greens. no seasoning, no broth juice, greens, and onions. The cornbread muffins tasted like water in cornmeal. The lemonade was great very sweet! For my second plate we had fried chicken it was not fresh, just sitting under a lamp, the macaroni and cheese was creamy cheesy cheesy just had no seasoning no flavor this food would be really good for a diabetic patient someone who cannot have salt or seasoning. The bottom line is there was no flavor no soulfood dinner was not reminiscent of southern cuisine. for the taste it was too expensive.

Worst soul food ever! Really over sweetened Candid Yams taste like sticky cheap syrup with a bunch of sugar.Dressing tasted like watery cornbread with seasoned salt. Stuffed bellp was okay. Truly did not enjoy the food.
