The coffee sign caught my eye on a cool rainy day. I am VERY THANKFUL that it did.

Where do I start?! Honestly I didn’t have high expectations when I arrived here. It seemed more like a neighborhood spot that people frequented not particularly because it was good but because it was spacious, available, and easy to get to.
Well I was wrong. While insider is spacious and cozy they are absolutely worth the visit for both locals and outsiders.
I arrived early in the morning and the case was fully stocked and the cashier was very friendly and helpful. He answered all my questions, even obvious ones, and never seemed disgruntled or bothered.
I ordered two cookies, the bacon egg and cheese sour dough breakfast “focaccia “ , and a coffee.
Coffee was just what I needed to start my morning. Fresh, hot, and soothing. Then the pastries. I got the oatmeal raisin cookie and the pumpkin cheesecake. Both were out of this world. Soft, chewy inside, slight crunch to the edge, and full of flavor. Probably 2 of the best cookies I’ve had.
The bacon egg and cheese sour dough was warm which was nice, well seasoned, perfect bready chew while being airy. It was an all around winner for me. I actually went back later that day for seconds but only got a cookie as they were low on offerings right before closing.
Again this place is well worth a visit. Nothing in the case is the wrong choice and while this isn’t some modern, sleek, 2025 looking bakery they invest the time and effort in to making every single offering tasty and worth your money. I can’t wait to go back to Birmingham if only for this bakery.

BBW used to be one of our favorites. What has happened? The once loved fresh, crispy on the outside, chewy on the inside baguette now tastes like it has been sitting for a few days. The almond frangipane was a little better. Their most recent JCDH food score is 91. I hope they can turn this around soon.

The tomato soup and sour dough bread are fantastic. I like to pair it with avocado toast. Yummy
Afterwards I always buy a couple of breads. Each bread is really delicious. We’ve tried them all.

Thank you for partnering with Grace Klein Community! Food, service, atmosphere, and community partnership all 5 stars
Myself and a few other locals have found that the quality of the pastries and desserts have changed. They used to have one of the best oatmeal raisin cookies in the world - huge, soft along with a delicious flavor and now they taste stale and are flat. I got them as a gift for someone that used to love them and he actually thought they were stale!!! Even though we got there early and were told they were fresh out the oven!! A Walmart cookie would’ve been better and cheaper.
They changed the cinnamon roll recipe to the classic cinnamon roll that most bakeries tend to have. The other one was unique and could only find at Birmingham breadworks.
I know they’re only open once a week, but just go to Hinkle’s at pepper place bc the quality remains consistent and they never let you down over there.

I’ve been a regular customer at this bakery, but today I witnessed something that I cannot ignore. Two customers who came in after me were treated terribly by a barista named Allison. She screamed at them and seemed to be trying to refuse them service. This is not the first time I’ve seen her treat minorities differently. While the bakery itself is great, the behavior of some staff, particularly Allison, is troubling.
It’s clear that the baristas here seem unmanaged, and some appear to have racist views, which should never be tolerated in any workplace. I hope the owners and management take this seriously because this kind of behavior ultimately reflects poorly on the entire business. Allowing such conduct can drive away customers, and I urge you to address this issue promptly.
