Frothy Monkey is a great place for fresh healthy food with excellent vegan options. The black bean and quinoa burger tasted great and can be made gluten free š„³. Loved the sides of fruit and roasted veggies. I ordered delivery but Iām looking forward to visiting this restaurant in person for a future latte. They offer different choices of vegan milks. What a gem in a land of fried and unhealthy food. Thank you Frothy Monkey!! Updated from previous review on 2026-02-10

My son and my husband and I decided to go the this cute little place right around the the corner. My son is gluten free and we were excited to try the gluten free French toast, but unfortunately we did not get to experience it because they said they could not do it even though it says it on the menu. Thank you to our server Lee. She was a gem and tried her hardest to get my boy a gluten French toast. Thank you!

We ordered breakfast this morning.
I ordered the āJulie Bagelā which is eggs, tomato feta and basil on an everything bagel. The bagel had zero seasoning on it. It was more like a nothing bagel. It was a very dry and stale tasting bagel. I could not see or taste any basil. There was a tiny amount of feta but I could not taste it. This was bar none the worst bagel sandwich I have ever eaten.
My wife ordered the French toast. Again, the bread was dry and stale. How can French toast be dry? I donāt know but it was.
My wife also got a 16oz coffee which was delicious. Some of the best coffee I have tasted from a breakfast cafe. I got the firepot chai latte which was also delicious.
Service was ok. Somewhat slow for the amount of people working and the few customers that were in there. I tried to catch our serverās attention a few times when they left us unattended but they kept on walking by.
To summarize, the coffee and tea were great. The food was awful. Service mediocre. It was quite pricy considering the quality and the amount of food we ate. The music was also so loud, I couldnāt hear what our server was saying half the time and had to ask him to repeat himself several times.

Charging $14 for avocado toast with PRE PACKAGED avocado instead of fresh avocado and then having the nerve to call it Cali toast is diabolical. Food was disgusting and they need to specify that they arenāt using fresh avocado.

I came here for brunch, where I got the biscuits with chipotle gravy. The ambiance here is quite nice, and I noticed a fair number of people that looked like regulars, including someone holding a Bimrimgham city binder of some sort. The server was friendly, and the food preparation was fairly fast. The biscuits and gravy were really good. My companion was a bit disappointed with his avocado toast, though he couldnāt explain why. On the whole the feeling was the food was very good. I did notice I had to ask for salt and pepper; the shakers werenāt already on the table. Iād come back if in the area!

I got the Betsy (chicken salad sandwich) almost two months ago when I was stopping into Birmingham for the weekend, and I have thought about it everyday since. Iāve contemplated taking the 2 hour drive from where I live, solely for this sandwich. 12/10!

Every other Wednesday, a group of 10 of us older, mostly retired guys meet in the outdoor patio of the Frothy Monkey in downtown Birmingham for coffee and conversation. This is the perfect venue for our group as itās comfortable and spacious, they even have heaters in the wintertime, and they will also turn the music volume down so all of us half-deaf former hippies can hear each other talk. I highly recommend it! Tom Cosby
