The veal saltimbocca was tender and packed with flavor, while the house-made pasta carried perfect texture. Service was attentive without hovering, and the cozy, family-style atmosphere gave the night a welcoming, old-world charm.

I’ve been dining at Gianmarco’s since they opened in 2003, and I’ve enjoyed every single dining experience there. Portion sizes are generous, the pasta and sauces always taste fresh and cooked to perfection, and the daily dinner specials provide just the right amount of variety to keep the menu interesting and exciting.
Gianmarco’s offers a full bar service and an impressive wine selection as well.
The restaurant space is rather cozy with a view of the open kitchen which adds an interesting element to the ambiance reminiscent of the old Hot & Hot Fish Club. Of course, this does raise the ambient noise level a bit which might affect patrons with hearing disabilities.
The service is always perfect with seasoned, attentive and friendly wait staff. Also, the front of house manager visits every table to ensure customer satisfaction in all elements of the dining experience.
I highly recommend Gianmarco’s in Homewood. Do make reservations several weeks in advance for the best seating times.

I got the mushroom ravioli and my wife got the 4-cheese pasta and both were absolutely incredible. The portions are very generous and the atmosphere is great. My only complaint was our server seemed a bit flippant with our presence. My wife made the comment that maybe we weren’t spending enough money for her to care since we didn’t get bottles of wine or any alcohol from the bar.

I can’t say anything about the food because we weren’t served any. We weren’t even seated. I called to make a reservation for my wife’s birthday on August 21st at 5:57 (in case they want to check their records) for tonight at 7:00PM, but when we showed up we were told that we weren’t on the list. They clearly didn’t believe that I had called, and they went ahead and seated someone else who’d arrived after us. They told us to go wait outside away from the restaurant and gave no indication as to how long it’d be and they were very clearly annoyed at our presence. This is how you treat people when they make a reservation a week in advance?
My wife was recommended this restaurant and specifically requested it as her only birthday present so it was pretty upsetting, but we ended up going to the other Italian restaurant about 5 minutes down the road and they were very nice, and the food was great.
The food was excellent, and the service was superb (thanks to Joseph, our waiter).

Gianmarco’s in Homewood is an absolute gem. When I lived in Birmingham, it was always one of my favorite spots, and now I make it a point to come back every time I’m in town. I always order the seafood fra diavolo — it’s not on the menu, but it’s an incredible pasta dish that never disappoints.
On my most recent visit, my family joined me for dinner, and the service was impeccable. Even though the restaurant was packed (as it always is, thanks to its well-earned popularity), our server was attentive, friendly, and made us feel well taken care of. To top it off, they surprised us with complimentary desserts — the special lemon cake, tiramisu, and bombolini — all of which were phenomenal. The wine and cocktail selection is also outstanding, making the whole dining experience truly special.
If you’re anywhere near Birmingham, Gianmarco’s is a must-visit.
