Iconic italian with fabulous specisla and fun wait Staff. Check out the Wine Shed!
Last night was my 68th birthday. I booked Gianmarco's about two months ago. Gianmarco's WAS our go to place for a special meal with family and friends. I am from New York and the Veal Chop Parmesan has always been my go to dish that reminds me of my past. This meal was very disappointing on many levels.
Service: At first, I was very hope the service would be good. Our reservations were at 06:30 PM. We were seated right away. I wanted a relaxing meal with my wife and adult children. It took 15 minutes to get my wife a glass of wine. That was my first clue. Still, I was hopeful. The waiter had a lovely accent which reminded me of being in Europe. He must have been new. He had a hard time remembering the special or it seemed that way. He was pleasant but seemed overwhelmed, over worked and a bit stressed.
Ambiance: Gianmarco's is always loud. If you want a quiet place, this is not the place to go. I knew that prior to getting there. Always packed and always popular especially on a Saturday night.
Food: This was both a disappointment and shock. Lets start with the appetizers. We got the special which was Moral Mushrooms. My wife has fond memories of fining Moral Mushroom with her dad growing up. They are very rare, only this time of year, and very delicate. They are supposed to lightly fried. These Moral Mushrooms were heavily battered, tasteless and the only flavor was the Aloi. We also ordered Mussels. These were awful, must have been old and were VERY fishy. My entire family said, they were bad which is very unusual. I shared this with the server, who said nothing, took the place with a frown on his face. I had the Veal Chop Parmesan and shared it with my son. Unlike times before, it was way to salty, and I only ate half of my half. My wife had veal picada. On her first bit, she had grizzle, and her entire plate was uneaten at the end of the meal. The sauce on it was off as well. My daughter had the sea bass; he liked it but was not wowed in anyway.
When the server came to the table for desert, we asked for to-go boxes for my left-over Veal Chop and my daughters Sea Bass. My wife entire plate was unneatened and she said she did not need a to-go box. The server clearly saw nothing was eaten on her main course and said NOTHING. Not a word. We skipped desert mainly due our disappointing meal. The check came and it was wrong. Seems the server only charged me for my neighbor drink instead of my bill. It took a while to get his attention, and he saw the mistake and apologized.
We all agreed, this iconic restaurant was not the place it once was. Sad, it was the place I would want to go went I wanted a taste of the past. Eat well, Drink Well and stay healthy.
the chef gave me what I wanted and needed I had been looking for linguine alle vongole since last year and he or she prepared spectacularly
Delicious, Delicious, Delicious ❣️💋‼️
The restaurant was primo excellent.
Our waitress or server as some would say is politically correct, was wonderful. She had a great sense of humor, awesome memory when she told us of the specials and even about the entrees in the menu. Plus she knew the history of the restaurant and of other top places in neighboring states.
Then the manager came by and offered his knowledge of the building, which had a nostalgic feel. Which wasn’t from the restaurants history, but because of the establishments that did business out of the building for years before the restaurant started.
Then the food…what can I say, the food was delectable, tasty, very well seasoned.
All in all, next time we are in the area of Hoover or Birmingham, we will be stopping by to get a bite.
Bon Appetit!!!
Kevin was great! Very informative about the menu. My husband got the baked rigatoni that was amazing and a huge portion. I got the veal and ricotta tortellini which was also amazing!
Still my favorite Italian in Bham. Don’t go to have an intimate dinner. It’s been really loud in there the last couple of times.

The sides are hilariously small. Not even enough for one person.
We ordered the ribeye steak (2 of them) for Take-Out tonite and you could barely cut most of it-and really hard to chew, even the flavor wasn't what's it's been last 2 times we ordered it in last 2 months. We will not be ordering steak there again! Sams has a tenderloin that's better than that! This tasted like something you might get at Steak Out or a cheap steak place for $50 each. Very disappointing!

Went to the wine bar in the back and it was wonderful. Had our first date here and the service was great, you can pick your own bottle of wine and the food was so good. Highly recommend! Do valet parking to make it easy.

I am writing to express my disappointment with the recent experiences we have had with carryout orders from Gianmarcos. My family and I have been loyal customers for many years and have always enjoyed the quality of food and service provided. However, our last two orders have left much to be desired and have not met the standards we have grown accustomed to.
Firstly, the portion sizes were significantly reduced. The penne a la vodka and fiochi portions were noticeably smaller, which was quite surprising given our past experiences. Additionally, the hot food was cold and dried out upon pickup, making it clear that it had been sitting out for some time before we received it.
Furthermore, despite having a set time for our pickup last night, we did not receive our food until 25-30 minutes after the designated time. This delay was quite inconvenient and added to the overall dissatisfaction with the service.
I am not sure if there has been a change in management or staffing, but these recent experiences have not reflected the high level of service and quality that we have always enjoyed at Gianmarcos. I hope that this feedback is taken seriously and that measures are put in place to return to the excellent standard that we have known for many years.

The worst bolgnese I’ve ever had.
Ambience was not great either.
My server was courteous though.
Was there to celebrate my birthday, really sucked!! Not a place to celebrate your special day. Never going back.
Price doesn’t commensurate the food and ambience.
