We’re staying in room 322. The air has been on 65 degrees for an entire day and it’s still hot in here. The toilet and sink is backed up and when I called the front desk the gentlemen explained he was the only one here and he didn’t know when he could assist us. So we’re here suffering with 2 kids. This place cost too much money to not be up to date. Very upset ?. The only thing good is the location. Also if you eat downstairs in their restaurant make sure you don’t order the shrimp and grits. One word disgusting. This hotel is definitely scratched off my list. Arima who worked on the 8th floor for breakfast was so so rude. I asked her where was the sweetener and she just pointed towards the dining area. I went to the area no sugar. I asked again she pointed again so now I’m thinking there’s a communication error. Then I heard her speak English. So I asked again and she finally said it’s over by the code when you walk out. Of course she had an attitude I said the next time someone ask you anything pointing is rude and simply open your mouth and answer. Then she was rude with another guest because they asked for some waffle mix. By the way no one came to fix the sink or toilet. Save your money People it’s a total rip offRooms: The air didn’t work we suffered all night. The toilet and sink backed up and couldn’t get help because the front desk guy was the only one here. Pretty much leaving and going to another hotel. I’m lividFood & drinks: Food-shrimp and grits nasty

We had a great experience here for our 2 nights in downtown Birmingham. Friendly staff, clean rooms in good shape considering how old the building is, quiet with comfortable beds and pillows, and surprisingly really good free breakfast. The weather was nice, so we enjoyed sitting on the front porch with a drink (that we brought) and our books, which was lovely. There's also 2 lounge areas inside where we could have sat and read. The only parking option is valet, but we parked in nearby public lot #3 for $18 for 2 whole days with zero issues. It's a couple blocks away, but if you don't mind walking, it's a great, cheaper parking option. There was no refrigerator in the room. That was the only negative we encountered.Walkability: We walk everywhere, so we would say it's a very walkable area. We walked to a couple restaurants, the Civil Rights Institute, and the arena for a concert.

I usually stay in a Marriott prouduct down at the Collonade area south of town on 280 when i come here (for 30 years or so, consulting). Good restaurants there. This was the first time staying downtown. This hotel was interesting since it is a historic building. This is an easy Uber from the airport and the hotel is clean and well maintained. The breakfast is on the 8th floor, 6:30 to 9:30. Great selections and service. I was there for two nights and did dinner the first night at the restaurant on the first floor (run independently of the hotel). Meh!.. but ok and convenient if you want to stay in.. service was good! I walked with a group the last night to a much better dining selection. Probably a little sketcy to walk at night for a wonan alone. I would definitely stay again, when w/o a car. The parking was valet parking, and could be a hastle if you have to leave early since they pack em right in to a small area, and its $40 or so per night. The hotel is a hilton/hampton product. It could use a plack that states the history of the place and its name sake.. Tutwhiler... a steel/energy/commodities magnate who helped found birmingham. Interesting place/area, and id stay again.

The rooms are gross and unsanitary in areas, nice in others. If the customer service wasn't so great, I'd rate this place a 2... maybe. Everything around this hotel closes at 4 or 5 so be prepared for that...

I can't say enough about the caliber of service I received at this hotel. Ms. Philnetra at the front desk is just outstanding. She made me feel important, valued and seen. She is definitely an asset to this hotel and is the reason for this 5 star review. THANKS!

A beautiful, old hotel in the downtown core! The staff are friendly, accommodating and very professional. The Valet service staff go above & beyond when checking in/checking out guests and their vehicles. Vince & Chris are young men who are top notch, courteous and very helpful to the guests of the hotel. From the time we arrived early for check in on Friday afternoon to the time we checked out on a very busy Sunday morning my husband & I were taken care of!Nearby activities: close to all the historical things to see in Birmingham.Walkability: easy to walk about town and totally feel safe doing so

Allows yappy pets to bark through the night. I'm a Hilton diamond member and I need to research Marriott credit cards.

Incredible area and the lodging is wonderful. The staff is very kind. They took in abandoned medical care laborers who couldn't return home because of ice storm yet needed to get back to work downtown. As one of those medical care laborers, I was very appreciative for their graciousness and accommodation to assist with getting us out of the virus. My family will be back and I prescribe it to anybody who comes to townThe staff are excellent and attentive. Free continental breakfast is available in the top floor of the hotel..

This hotel is in need of updating. I did appreciate the secured elevators so you can not get to the room level in the elevator without a key card. The onsite restaurant had some delicious wings owned by a private company that was super friendly. The rooms, however, need a serious refresh. The walls are thin, and I could hear my neighbors all night. The bathroom's caulking around the shower needed cleaning. The carpet was worn, and the bed was not comfortable. This was my second time staying here for business. It is downtown, so the location is convenient. They served breakfast, which was tasty. All the staff and valet where nice and provided great customer service.

Was in town for a funeral and looking for an overnight stay. A place downtown was ideal so chose The Tutwiler. Nicer than we expected for such an old and historic hotel. Valet parking was a bonus being in downtown Bham. Rooms were very adequate. Will definitely stay again if the occasion arises.Safety: Valet parking eased my mind about parking downtown.Walkability: Close to downtown amenities and easy to walk to.

Great location and the hotel is beautiful. The staff is extremely kind. They took in stranded healthcare workers who could not get home due to ice storm but had to return to work downtown. As one of those healthcare workers, I was extremely grateful for their kindness and hospitality to help get us out of the cold. My family will be back and I recommend it to anyone who comes to town.
