Enjoyed an evening out here recently. I made reservations and was seated as soon as I made it in. The hostesses were very pleasant. The waiter was super attentive and friendly. Great service! I had the Spinach Con Queso as an appetizer and the Steak au Poivre for dinner.
The Lemon Martini was enjoyable and the extra that came with it on the side!

We were very disappointed with our experience at J. Alexander’s. My husband and I were on a rare date night, so we were hoping for a special evening, but it didn’t turn out that way.
First, we witnessed a group of people who had been patiently waiting at the bar, just like us, get overlooked. They were told reservations couldn’t be made for large groups, yet another group with a “reservation” for 5 (that turned into 10) was seated right away. It felt unfair and poorly managed.
After waiting an hour, we were finally seated. Unfortunately, the food and service didn’t make up for the wait. My salad was so salty it was inedible—a complete waste of $8. We ordered drinks with the intention of enjoying them during our meal, but I had to remind the waitress about them. By the time my drink arrived, I had already finished my meal, and the drink was so bad I couldn’t even finish it.
We had hoped to end the night with dessert, but the waitress dropped off the check without even asking if we wanted anything else.
Overall, the night was a letdown. Poor service, disappointing food, and bad management left us feeling frustrated and regretful about choosing J. Alexander’s for our special night out.

This is my favorite restaurant in the Birmingham area- Mr Jack’s crispy chicken is delicious!! They pay attention to details and it comes through in the food they serve. They have it down to perfection!!

I was at the bar Saturday nite with a friend. We both live 5 minutes from the restaurant So go there often….our last two visits were not successful….this time we sat at the bar for at least 8 min before we got waited on while the 3 bartenders were standing at the other end of the bar….this has not been the norm in our visits until the last couple of months. We didnt get there this last visit until 8:30ish and it was not crowded at all. Going to the bar there after events or just to have a few cocktails is very convenient for us and a favorite pastime….i hope that the service goes back to the way it was….and soon!

Our waitress Jessie was awesome, very attentive, knowledgeable and friendly. Our party of 4 came on a Monday night around 5:15. There was no wait. We came last Tuesday night but didn't stay because the wait was around 30 minutes around 6 p.m. The spinach con queso was some of the best we've ever had. Highly recommend the baby back ribs, cypress salad, chicken tenders and Nashville hot chicken sandwich. Shoestring fries are delicious. Carrots cake is amazing, definitely a large, sharable portion.

Charging me for a side of cheese and bacon for my smashed potatoes whenI'm paying almost 50$ for a meal is absolutely brain numbingly stupid. $53 with tax for 1 thing when I used to get steak and app for this price. New owners need to get their stuff together.
Edit to add: An enjoyable experience would only occur if you stop charging for a single side of something that always came free. I'd rather go eat at springhouse for these prices, they're worth the cost. 🙌

I discovered it while searching on Google for a novel dining experience, as I had grown weary of the limited options available. Our server, Dee, provided exceptional service. Having been raised in the restaurant industry, as my mother worked as a server for over 15 years, I recognize the challenges associated with this profession. Dee was attentive to our needs, ensuring that our drinks were refilled promptly and demonstrating excellent teamwork. In my diverse work experiences, I have encountered individuals with a lackadaisical attitude, but this was not the case here. Even the chefs in the kitchen engaged in friendly conversations with us. We will undoubtedly return for the delectable cuisine. However, I must mention that the dessert options were rather limited. Given the establishment's high standards, I was surprised to find only one cake and two pies available.

My husband, MIL, and I had dinner there for my inlaw’s 70th wedding anniversary. My FIL passed away several years ago, but we wanted to help her celebrate the special day. Our dinner couldn’t have been better in every aspect.
I cannot say enough compliments about our server Arianna. Without a doubt, she was the best server that we’ve ever had at J Alexanders. She took care of us, made sure that we had all that we needed, and was such a delight! J Alexanders is so lucky to have her on staff with their company.
The food was amazing too! It was served hot and fresh and we enjoyed it very much.
