OvenBird Reviews
We are visiting Birmingham this weekend for the Lake Street Dive show tomorrow. Restaurant Week led us to OvenBird. Last night we ordered the Tomato Salad, Hanger Steak and Roasted Chicken. Among the best, most delicious meal we’ve ever had. The Tomato Salad is over the top delectable. Chris, our server, welcomed us to the restaurant and to Birmingham with informative, gracious service. Highly recommended!
All of the food's flavor was disappointing for the price paid.
Excellent ceviche and paella.

OvenBird is a Birmingham original that offers an exceptional dining experience in a warm atmosphere with prompt service. Guests are welcomed into a space where small plates shine, featuring dishes like ceviche, empanadas, and steak cooked to perfection in the woodfire oven. The menu is designed for sharing, and the staff is happy to provide recommendations. The bartenders are friendly and attentive, with a well-curated wine list that highlights Spanish and Argentinian varietals. Desserts are a must-try, with the tres leches cake being a particular favorite.
The restaurant's unique live fire oven adds to the excitement of the meal, and everything is cooked using live fire methods, whether in an oven, on the plancha, or on a grill. The patio area is perfect for a romantic evening or a night out with friends, and the location in Pepper Place is both convenient and charming. The prices are reasonable, making the overall experience exceptional, with friendliness, atmosphere, and taste all scoring high marks.
The small plates carry bold smoky flavors, with the beef shoulder cooked over live fire being a standout. The open, industrial-style space keeps the night lively and engaging. The tomato salad with the avocado dressing is also a highlight, and the cuisine reminds guests of a Spanish vacation. While the service can be a bit slow at times, the food is consistently fresh and delicious, making OvenBird a top recommendation for both special occasions and casual nights out.
