Mater’s Pizza & Pasta Emporium

no hostess to seat us so we picked a seat, took at least 5 minutes for the waitress to show up to the table. (the place was NOT busy) only about 5 tables occupied in the whole place. it then took another 5 for her to bring our drinks & 40 minutes to get our food.

Friday night, March 28th, steak night, arrival time 6:30 p.m. Ordered 2 Filets and 2 salads. 1 and 1 /2 hour later we inquired at the bar regarding at least getting our salads, since our table had not been visited by waitstaff. About 20 minutes later salads were brought. Another hour went by and we inquired at the bar about our Filets. We were told they would check, which turned into, they were out of Filets. Would we now like Ribeyes? Short answer, no. A conversation was held with us and Chris the owner who offered no concern for the situation other than, had we now been offered Ribeyes? A minimum discount for the food we had to this point was given and we left. We are regulars, there at least twice a week. This is likely going to change. Such a shame.

Recently moved to Ft Payne and this was our first pizza here. Our pizza and chicken philly were awesome. We ordered take out and everything went smoothly. Will order again.

The hostess is going to cost this place a lot of business. Love the food and have had great experiences at the other locations. Came in with wife and son and was told it would be 15 minutes before we could be seated. Empty table everywhere. We said ok and then she asked if we wanted outside or inside. She said it was 15 minute wait either way. She said the “kitchen was backed up.” Another couple came in 5 minutes later and grabbed a table and ordered drinks. We went back up to the server and said we would like a table and order drinks. She repeated it was a 15 minute wait. We told her we wanted to sit down and wait and have drinks while we waited. She said no tables were available…still. Long story short, it was the first bad experience I’ve had at a Maters.

My parents & I decided to try this place out tonight & we sat in the restaurant for approximately 25 mins without ANY service. A girl came to sit us at a table, but nobody ever came to ask us what we’d like to drink or get our orders or anything. There were 2 other tables occupied in whole restaurant & 3-4 servers & the bartender there, 3 of which were sitting at a table together talking the entire time we were there. There was 1 server that seemed to be checking in with the other 2 tables, she glanced at us several times & seemed to realize that we still hadn’t been served… Here’s the thing, I work in the restaurant business & have for years, I am typically extremely tolerable of little inconveniences at restaurants, I know things happen, sometimes workers are really busy, sometimes people mistakes, etc. I don’t know who our server was supposed to be, but even if they had no idea we had been there, the other server saw us sitting there several times & never bothered to come check on us, ask us what we wanted to drink, or go & tell our server about us & reassure us our server would be with us soon. From what I could tell, there was no reason, no excuse for how poor the service was. Multiple employees, almost empty restaurant, & 25 minutes of no service. After reading reviews about how long the food typically takes, we decided it wasn’t worth the time. It’s unfortunate we didn’t get to try the food. This may be the worst service I’ve experienced at a restaurant.

Mater's: A Solid Slice and Great Vibes
Mater's in Fort Payne is a chill spot that hits the mark for a casual night out. While the pizza was definitely enjoyable, the real star of the show was the bar area. The atmosphere was relaxed and friendly, making it the perfect place to unwind with my little brother. Chatting with the friendly bartenders only added to the pleasant experience.

If you're looking for a place to grab a good pizza and enjoy some quality time with friends, Mater's is worth a visit.
