Excellent food, excellent service. Can’t ask for more. Rahm Pils and most hearty meatloaf, mashed potatoes, creamy cucumber salad, blueberry cheesecake, german chocolate cake all superb.

Hildegard’s German Cuisine 2357 Whitesburg Drive SE C Huntsville, Alabama 35801 While visiting Redstone Arsenal and Huntsville, we decided to try one of the three German restaurants advertised - we picked the one with the best reviews so our expectations were high going in. Difficult to go against all the wonderful comments we read, but we gotta mention while the food was fair, the hospitality was exceptional. Our Servers and Hostesses were so friendly and attentive one could overlook the quality of the food and still have a pleasant dining experience at Hildegards’. Granted, we came in on an off day - not the traditional Friday, Saturday crowd and the restaurant was about one-third full. Menu looked great with lots of German food options and the beer selection decent. We ended up ordering traditional German meals - the Jaeger Schnitzels and the Corden Bleu. The Jaeger Schnitzels were tender; however the thick brown gravy with mushrooms was super salty, our consensus was the mushrooms were probably canned and the gravy possibly some kind of pre-made package. You definitely couldn’t complain about the portions - the schnitzels are about as big as the dinner plate. The Cucumber Salads was tasty and flavorful. On the other side of the table, the Veal Cordon Bleu - Black Forest ham and Swiss cheese, with Red Cabbage and Pan Fired Potatoes. The breaded veal tasted as though it had been sitting for awhile in the warmer - sides were soggy and the veal a bit chewy. I’m not a cook, but my guess is it was pre-made earlier in the evening and sitting in a pan waiting for someone to order. In actuality, both schnitzels seemed pan fried, but had the texture and presentation as though they were not freshly made with our order and had been in chaffing dishes or sitting in a warmer. For dessert, we had the Black Forest Cake and without a doubt - this was the hit of the evening for us. That, and the Bitburger Radlers beers were awesome. Honestly, we’d come back - possibly after we tried the other German restaurants in the Huntsville area. Atmosphere and the friendly people working in the front of the house were super. Food was alright - not the best we’ve had at other German restaurants, but all things considered we enjoyed the visit.

Located on the corner of a small strip mall, it looks unassuming. There is a small outdoor garden where you can dine if you can stand the Alabama heat! Upon entering, we were immediately greeted. They were not empty but not so full I needed a reservation. We were seated in a window seat. By the time we left, nearly every table was full. Katie was our server. She was attentive and friendly. She offered her opinion when we asked. The food was great! You can’t leave hungry. I wanted the homemade dessert of which they had plenty made on site but I was so full! I had the Berlin chicken with apples and onions and Swiss. My husband had the house special. We both took away boxes. The food quality was great! The inside atmosphere was painted my sky and quaint even if views were of parking lot. We will return and you should go!

Amazing food . Subpar service but I will say after observing the other wait staff it did appear we just had bad luck and either had someone new or someone that didn’t seem to have the knack for that position. Very impressed with the quality and amount of food. Will be back but keep fingers crossed for another waitress.

Food was wonderful! I had a glass of lovely German wine with it. My friend and I enjoyed it so much. We will be back. She wants to bring her husband. They live two hours away, so that says a lot.

Had a dentist follow-up appointment in Huntsville and was overdue for a German meal. Only two German restaurants there. Wife had pork schnitzel, with green beans and spaetzle and I had their jagerschnitzel with asparagus and spaetzle. We both wanted Spezi (coke & fanta or orange mixed), but the waitress (American) had never heard of it. The pork pieces were so large, they barely fit on the plate. Each of us left with about half of the portion to bring home. Our total was just over $40.00. This is a military town and they do offer those with a valid military ID card a 10% discount. Without doubt, will return again.

Excellent food . Always server hot . Nice portion size. Their red cabbage is the best!

Authenticity reigns supreme at Hildegard’s! Thinly pounded schnitzels. Rich gravies. Homemade salad dressings and cakes. Amazing service. Comfortable, welcoming environment. If you’ve had German food in Huntsville but haven’t had it here- you are missing out. If you are traveling and want to try this local gem, you will be so happy that you did. Prost!

Everything that hit our table was divine - fresh bread, sausage kabob, cream of asparagus soup, Hunter's Stroganoff, sample platter with schnitzel, German chocolate cake, and beer! Can't wait to go back!

We were lured by reviews of gluten free schnitzel. Their website even has a space for gluten free menu but the link yields nothing instead of explaining they no longer offer gf breading. So we ordered sausages. All the food was underwhelming. The German potato salad and red cabbage were too acidic. They need to source a better vinegar. I can still feel it stuck in my throat and stripping my mouth. We were driving through this town and unfortunately for them have high standards for German restaurants, living near one of the best in the country. It’s hard to believe this is supposed to be one of the best restaurants in the area.

My husband and I have been patrons of Hildegard's for years and love everything about it. A group of seven dined there this week and everything was great to include the warm greeting, wonderful service, and fabulous food! The portions were so generous that we all left with enough food for another meal. My favorites are the cucumber salad, traditional chicken schnitzel, and spatzle with gravy. Make sure to save room for dessert - the black forest cake is my favorite, but the blueberry cheesecake and coconut cake are not far behind. When I am entertaining at home, I often purchase my dessert from Hildegard's . I high suggest making reservations. We dined at 5:30 and the restaurant was at capacity on a Thursday night. Thank you Hildegard's for continuing to provide authentic German food to the community.

Dining at Hildegard’s is a real treat. The food is delicious, the service is excellent, and the atmosphere is warm and inviting. Their delicious red cabbage and cucumber salad remind me of restaurants I enjoyed in Germany. What a delightful place to dine!

Oh my goodness this place is just too good and too interesting. The cozy dining area, the beer and wine selection, the food and the sides available. All around a great spot to try if you’re in town for lunch or dinner. If you do stop ask for the grapefruit beer!
