They have a nice variety of bagels, cookies, croissants, and muffins (those were alphabetized, didja see that?). They also have some soups and sandwiches. Some days they are understaffed. The coffee is made behind the counter, then placed out front, so it may be cold.
So, working at and for UAB has its perks and one of them is Au Bon Pain. We are able to get free water(best water in the whole hospital, plus refills) and their great selection of food items and drinks, from pastries to sandwiches and salads.
The vegetarian avacado sandwich at around $7 is delicious. They're patient and helpful. As an alternative to the maze to the basement cafeteria, this is the convenient place for trendier food like paninis, smoothies, pastry, and grab-n-go. A natural-light patio feel dining area off the atrium. When you have to be at the hospital, this place can take the edge off of that sometimes awful feeling of bad things happening.
