The lady that answers the phone is always very rude! The order wasn't for me, if it was... I WOULD HAVE CANCELED. Do better!

The restaurant carpet was so sticky that I felt bad for my shoes. The bathroom was dirty that I was convinced that I couldn't eat from this place. We left because of how dirty the place was.

Gail's Down the Street Cafe is a hidden gem in the heart of Montgomery, Alabama. My family and I visited town for Thanksgiving and we were looking for authentic Southern food and we found it at Gail's.This charming little restaurant needs to be on your list if you visit. From the moment we stepped inside, we were greeted with warm smiles and a cozy atmosphere that instantly made us feel right at home. Even Gail stopped by our table to talk to us. She's so sweet. The food was mouthwatering incredible! Gail's offers exceptional value for the quality of food and the service they provide. If you're in the area, do yourself a favor and pay Gail's a visit - you won't be disappointed!

Simple menu, changes daily. Just amazing down home cooked meals. Recommend the Chicken and Dumplings. Interior is a little dated, but this okay. This place was packed for a weekday lunch and it's worth the wait.

Great healthy home cooking! They're so good, they're only open M-F 11-2. So you have to synchronize with them, instead of the way most restaurants have to do. But it's worth it!

Best southern food in the area. Everything is always fresh and delicious. The prices are great. No other restaurant around can compare.

I'm a court reporter who travels a lot to cover depositions. Recently, I had to go to Columbus, GA from Nashville and wanted to avoid both Atlanta (traffic nightmare) and Hwy 280 (hateful red lights) so I went through Montgomery, AL. And holy crap, am I glad I went through at lunch time and chose this place to eat!!! The cafe is easy to get to and has plenty of parking- the interior is not flashy or modern, but it is comfortable and homey. And honestly, after eating the food, I wouldn't care if they were in a tent, as long as they brought me this amazing food!! Their menu changes weekly- there are a few meats and vegetables that you can get everyday, and then there's a different selection for each day- which makes me wish I lived closer so I could eat here every freaking day. You can find the current menu on their Facebook page! If you go here though, and do NOT get the fried chicken, then you are seriously doing yourself a disservice. It. Is. Delicious. And as a lifelong southerner, I've eaten a butt load of fried chicken. This is some of the best I've ever had. The mashed potatoes, Lima beans, creamed corn and fried green tomatoes were all awesome as well- seasoned perfectly, were homemade and fresh. Seriously, after my first couple of bites, I had to just close my eyes and do my happy food dance. And the CORNBREAD!!! In true southern fashion, it is NOT sweet, thank god, and is cooked in a muffin form, which usually means that the cornbread is dry. I almost didn't taste it- I wish I hadn't, because this cornbread haunts me. It was light, delicate, savory and (I hate this word) moist. It was the perfect cornbread. They have also perfected sweet tea- I wish I could have gotten a gallon to take home. The women who were working the days I went (twice in six days!) were super sweet, quick and efficient, attentive without hovering- they're really awesome. They all work together and it seems like a well oiled machine. The prices are ridiculous for as much food as you get- a meat and three plus tea for $13.00?? I'd pay way more- but I appreciate not having to go over my allotted per diem for lunch! If you're in Montgomery between the hours of 11-2pm, and you're hungry- do yourself a favor and go to Gail's, tell the girls you're hungry, and eat what they bring you- because it's going to be delicious and your tummy will be very happy.

Totally totally unreal! We were passing through on a trip …two couples. We had two vegetable plates, fried chicken and smothered pork chops. The vegetables …..mashed potatoes , green beans, corn, broccoli casserole, fried green tomatoes, butter peas….honestly it was all beyond compare. Took me straight back to my grandmamas Sunday table. The server was super friendly and suggested the smothered chop and it was truly amazing. At this point we’d been on an 8 day trip and had some fine meals. None any better in fact we all agreed this beat everything we’d eaten all week. I had two regrets …one that I had no room for dessert and the second …..that It wasn’t meat loaf day! If you are ANYWHERE near this place …,,do yourself a favor and go! We are planning our next trip south around lunch here!!!!
