Quite unlike most restaurants recommended on Tripadvisor, this unpretentious little restaurant offers truly authentic Mexican food of the highest quality. Ignore the appearances, stay for the food.

I live to eat here whenever I'm in Montgomery. The food is authentic and flavorful. The prices are also reasonable. Most of the staff doesn't speak much English, so it helps to know a few key words in Spanish. The attached store also has a good selection of foods including baked goods.

This is the best Mexican food I have had in Alabama. come on folks and try something authentic. Extra words say it is still the best in Montgomery

Came here for dinner with a group of colleagues and did not regret it! Some of the best Mexican good I’ve had. Good, fresh, and flavorful! Great service and good food!

How is this place not number 1? It doesn’t look like much at first but once you go in you know it’s going to be amazing. I tried the burrito and tacos during my first visit and the burrito is in the running for best and most authentic I’ve ever had. I will definitely come back over and over again while I’m here. Definitely a DO NOT MISS if you’re visiting the area.

While traveling from Florida to St. Louis, we wanted a good quick meal so we decided to try Taqueria. This is a nice, clean, but simple restaurant. The service was excellent! Our waitress was very shy, which some mine mistake for unfriendliness. But that is not the case. We each had an entree off of the lunch specials and both were very good. We will be back!

The front exterior of this restaurant smelled of rancid garbage when we walked in. We sat down at a table and the waitress looked right at us. Four Hispanic customers came in after we did. And the waitress waited on them before us. I guess they don't value Caucasian customers too much there.

Visited on a Friday evening. The music was so loud I couldn't carry on a conversation with my wife. Food was ok, nothing to write home about. I went there to experience authentic Hispanic cousine, felt let down.

Stopped in based on other reviews. Don’t base your visit on looks. Food is outstanding! Get the Guacamole, you won’t be disappointed.

These tacos are straight up authentic. The red salsa is good and spicy as it should be. Don't be discouraged by the neighborhood.

El Campesino is in a fairly bad part of town, with very limited parking. It is not surprising to see trouble in the streets near the place. With that said, we still gave it a shot. The parking is very limited, with only a handful of spots outside the restaurant. Once inside, the staff is very friendly and almost makes up for all the other short comings. The food itself is average. I wouldn't write home about it but there is much worse Mexican restaurants in town. Overall, I would probably go to another Mexican restaurant if that is what you are craving. The logistics of getting here are just too off putting for the flavor of the food.

The waitress was patient with those of us that do not read spanish. The steak tacos are very good. I will definitely be back.
