The Gunter Annex location leaves a lot to be desired. This location suffers from trying to be too many things at once while not seeming to have the resources or people to pull it off. Everything that I have tried here (jerk chicken, brisket sandwich, turkey legs) sits firmly a step below home cooking quality. Inadequate amounts of spice (especially on the jerk chicken) leaves much to be desired across the board. The atmosphere and service are both decent, but certainly not impressive. The most frustrating aspect of the dining experience is the price point. $20 turkey legs, miniscule portions of jerk chicken and rice for nearly $17, mediocre brisket sandwiches at a $10 price point... the list goes on.

I wish I could say something nice about this restaurant, but each time I've given it a chance I have been left entirely disappointed.

Edit: After seeing the bold response to this review, I have a few more things to say:

I did my best to be considerate in my review and not allow much personal bias play a role in my phrasing aside from comparing the quality to other options, but seeing as the response I got was snide and rude, here we go. The jerk chicken wasn't NOT spicy, it was under spiced. It's clear whoever made the spice blend didn't care about anything but black pepper scotch bonnet. On top of that, the rice was entirely flavorless and SOAKING wet.

As for the price, I'm full well aware that you're running a business and making jobs, that's lovely. Unfortunately I can see why the Gunter location is empty from dawn till dusk every day, as sparingly few unlucky fools deign to throw away their money here more than once like I did. Blaming inflation for prices that are nearly double that of every restaurant in the surrounding area has got to be a joke; especially when the food tastes on par with a Big AZ Cheeseburger.

And all of this would be forgivable and I could easily glaze over it, if not for the food literally having made myself and a coworker of mind physically ill the first time we ate there. And until briefly after writing my initial review I felt fine, then quickly became nauseous much like the first time dining here. So no, I will not be giving this establishment a third chance, and I hope the main location does some quality control out here, because people seem to have some nice things to say about the restaurant. It's a shame we don't get the same quality everyone else does.

Im only rating this a 5 star is because of what everyone else says. I never ate here before because they are never open. Ever. I visit montgomery often and everyone brags about how good this place is. Every time i get around to trying it they are closed even when im headed there as early as 2 pm. As i sat in the car outside the lot for just 10 mins googling other soul food spots in the area and counted at least 5 people that walked up to their door . I heard one person say i guess she not cooking today as if they dont have a consistent schedule . Just wish they had more availability maybe i will catch them one day.

I had the pleasure of working with Potz and Panz for teacher appreciation week. We ordered the Jerk Chicken with yellow rice with a side order of Mac and cheese. The whole experience was a pleasure from the first phone call. The food was delicious and we had more than enough for our staff. I definitely recommend this company for any event you may have. Thank you Potz and Panz for making our day special.

Tried Pots and Pans location on maxwell-Gunter… yeah, not it.

Ordered the jerk chicken and got a portion that looked like a sample, not a meal; especially for the price.
And I say this as someone who loves smoked food... the flavor was way off. It didn’t taste like good smoke… it tasted like I had just eaten a carton of cigarettes.

Then there’s the brisket sandwich... $10 for mediocre meat and no side. Bold strategy.

I ordered chitterlings twice. The first time the chitterlings were swimming in grease no taste. I decided to give another try. This time they were burnt. I paid $10.00 for a scoop of chitterlings. Highly disappointed.

Food so good, put me right to sleep…Stopped by last minute and I'm glad I did! Food was too good! I ordered baked chicken that was falling off the bone and seasoned great. Sides completed the plate and were delicious too. My husband finished his fried chicken plate with the quickness. Flavor for sure is there! If you're looking for southern soul cooking, Potz and Panz is a no brainer.
