Step back in time and enjoy a small town diner. Try out one of the daily specials. I had turkey and gravy with collard greens, candied yams, and green salad. It also included cranberry sauce and cornbread muffins. The greens were cooked like my mom's and were delicious. It's kind of hidden but easy to find right across the street from the public library.
The Downtowner is fun - sort of like stepping back in time to a small town diner in the 50's, without the typical kitsch that usually accompanies this vibe. The burgers were fine and they offer a good selection of alcohol-free beverages.

When I'm in Selma at lunchtime during the week, I always go to the Downtowner. They offer a meat and three as well as the usual hamburgers etc. the food is delicious, and the service is great. The servers are all friendly and attentive. This is a basic downtown lunch place...nothing fancy, but comfortable. Try the Downtowner; you won't regret it.
