Felt special to be stepping into history. The oldest Black owned restaurant in the US. James Beard award recipient. Simultaneously iconic and familial. It was my first time stepping through the door, but knew this place and was at home instantly. And one bite was all it took to understand why they have been in operation for over 100 years.
There is just something deliciously addictive about this joint's barbecue sandwiches! If I happen to be in the area during mid-morning, I make a point to call-in an order. I always agree to have slaw added to my two sandwiches. What a tasty treat!

Wow! Fancy restaurants do not have this simple, back-in-the-day, BIG FLAVOR smoked meat. Melts in your mouth. A must try if you travel to the state. ( yes, make the drive. It's worth it).
