Enjoyed my birthday dinner at The French Connection Cafe & Lounge. I ordered the shrimp and grits. I have never had anything like that before and it was excellent. I grow chili peppers and the level of spice in that dish was perfect! This is the only place in town that has MEAD on the menu! They do it straight or in mixed cocktails. I had two of their mead cocktails and they couldn't have been any better, especially the sour notes. The staff was super friendly and very attentive....read full review
A delicious venue right next to the river. The menu really takes you back to New Orleans with seasoning, sauces, and an amazing vibe. I split the Cajun sliders, and shrimp tacos with friends. I also had a cup of their gumbo, the sangria mead(yes they have mead cocktails!), and a scoop of their vanilla ice cream. The French Connection Café & Lounge is a small, exciting café and lounge with a fun New Orleans feel atmosphere. It is located right on the Colorado River, offering beautiful views of the river and palm trees. The atmosphere is gorgeous, welcoming, and comfortable, with fun music and a friendly vibe. The outdoor patio features fireside seating right next to the river.
The food is phenomenal, amazing, incredible, and absolutely delicious. Menu highlights include the Cajun tacos, Chicken (bone in) and waffles, shrimp and grits, the Mardi Gras Morning omelette with lush potatoes, the waffle and eggs, and the Voodoo Queso Delight with shrimp. For breakfast, the breakfast burrito and ham & cheese crepe are recommended, as well as the Nutella, banana, and strawberry crepe. The gumbo is also noted as delicious. They carry a west coast IPA from a local brewery.
The staff is phenomenal, amazing, very welcoming, super sweet, helpful, personable, and friendly. Service is fantastic. Live music, such as a guitarist for Sunday brunch, adds to the experience. It is a little off the beaten path but is highly and strongly recommended as a regular spot to enjoy.
