The last time I ate at Galaxy Diner was May 2007. Before that, it was April 2002. Both of those times were for lunch, and I had such a memorable experience with my burger that I could not wait to bring my family here. Raising a family of 4 kids can take a toll on your traveling ability, but we recently had an opportunity in January 2025 to bring everyone out to Arizona. Galaxy is my standard stop on the way to the Grand Canyon from Phoenix.
A good restaurant must be consistent over time. I think Arizona residents aren't necessarily used to a "hey hon whaddya want" diner, so my NY-raised, NJ-resident review is based on my NY/NJ diner expectations. This place is STILL the best diner in Flagstaff and possibly the whole state (is it the only one?) And of course, the "cool factor" of being on the old Route 66 for all this time (thinking Bobby Troup for me, Cars movies for my kids) is pretty huge.
Burgers with green chili's, mushrooms, bacon, etc. were all absolutely DELICIOUS! Same level of flavor, moisture, and added some fried zucchini this time. Everything was stellar, including service. The only thing they don't know about are egg creams (must be a NY thing).
Dietary restrictions: For gluten-free, they gladly wrap a burger in lettuce instead of a bun.

Pros - customer service (Cole the waiter), atmosphere, got my food really fast
Cons - chicken tasted rough, food extremely blan (to be fair it is a diner the expectations for places like this isn't much higher than bar food.)
I would ask for Cole the waiter again extremely helpful and charismatic. I asked a couple random employees how it was working for here and how the owner treats their staff. They made it clear that he was pretty greedy and didn't really do anything special to show them he cared about them. I specifically did not ask Cole because I wanted a unbiased answer.

This is a charming diner, good food well seasoned and a nice variety of dishes, the ambiance is nice, old-timey pictures of movie stars on the wall. The service was the best part, Cole was really patient and kind in a stand-out way.

Our server, Kylie, was the best! She is so friendly and great at her job! Kylie and her manager were so accommodating; it's the best service I've had in a while. The food itself was just okay. My scrambled eggs were flufffy, and the bacon was crispy; however, our hashbrowns felt underdone, and my waffle was on the burnt side. I'd definitely come back to try their other menu items!

I ordered the colossal banana split. Cole our waiter It seemed like he did not know what he was. The banana split Basic ice cream Add toppings. I asked about. That's a quick cream and cherries that you're going top East, he stated. That the colossal did not come with these things. I showed him a picture of the last classroom when I was good. I had received there and it showed those items. I eat most of the night of split until I realized there was no banana when I mention this to the waitress she said we must have been out of bananas When I mentioned it to cole He asked if I wanted him to bring me a whole banana I told him no what I was going to do With a banana now period.
