This is a hidden gem! Been here three times, I’ve had tacos, chile rellenos, and burritos, and each time the food was great! Super authentic food. Reasonable prices. Fast service. Highly recommend.

Sonora Cocina Express is a perfect example of the old rule, 'Bigger Is Always Better' being blatantly wrong! Sonora Cocina Express is small. A beautiful example of a small, intimate, storefront restaurant serving divine food, which is contrary to what one would expect. But the store's owner, Liz, who usually welcomes her customers, says, 'I know my food is really good, because I come in every day, and make it fresh!' She's right on all counts. And to gather your own proof, 'ya gotta go and see (taste) for yourself!' I tell you now, the menu is not the typical 5 or 6 pages of everything 'Mexican' you find in most 'Mexican' restaurants. But you'll find something you enjoy, it will be excellent, and you'll return for more! *****

Born & raised in San Diego, I've lived in Tempe for 7 years now. I'm a Mexican food lover that will travel far & wide in my search for good Mexican food. Sonora Cocina Express is a 1/2 mile from my front door but I'd never been there before. All that has changed now... I've been there 3 times in the last week. What do I like about this joint? #1... it has a different menu. This is not the typical drive-thru taco shop... not the typical sit-down Mexican restaurant. #2... they serve 5 different soups... 6 days a week! #3... they serve street tacos... with 7 different meats available. #4... there are daily specials. Friday is a tamale special... and the red pork tamales are made fresh that day!So far... I eaten the Red Pozole... Cabeza Tacos... Green Chilaquiles w/ Eggs... and the Red Menudo w/ Bread.All were delicious!
