My friend and I got to Tucson with some very specific food stops recommended from a family member of mine and El Torero was one of them—and right fully so. We had a great meal there. Generous portion sizes and refills on Aguas Frescas, well-seasoned tamale dish that was baked just crispy enough, as well as cheese crisps that were savory and crunchy. We had a wonderful experience at El Torero! The food was delicious, and the portions were generous and definitely shareable. The staff was very friendly and attentive, which made our visit even more enjoyable. The only downside was that the restaurant felt a little warmer than we would have preferred. Other than that, we had a great experience and will definitely be back!
While the individual portions were sizable, they did not come with any additions on their own. You would have to pay extra for any garnishes except for basic lettuce. Additionally, the chips and salsa present at the start of the meal are slightly deceptive, as you usually expect them to be complimentary, however if you ask for another they will charge you $6. What you see is what you get.
