Food was bland and tasteless. I had the pork bowl and it was horrible. I also ordered the spam musubi which was eh... the Spam was barely cooked. Won't be going back. I would give less than 1 star if I could!

I grew up in Hawaii and have fond memories of having plate lunch from L & L. I was so excited to see they'd finally made their way to Tucson. We ordered a half and half (not posted on the menu, but they'll make it!) with BBQ chicken and katsu, a garlic shrimp and loco moco combo, and a manapua. We ordered to go and should have checked the bag before leaving. The BBQ chicken was on the pale side but had decent flavor. There were 3 good-sized shrimp but loco moco had no gravy...the essence...what ties the whole dish together...missing...super disappointed :( The katsu was good but came with no sauce. The rice was good, and the mac salad was solid. Prices seemed high in proportion to the amount of food ($19 for 3 shrimp, a burger patty, egg, rice and mac salad). Perhaps my expectations were too high, but I won't be racing back across town. We REALLY wanted it to be great... at least comparable to what we get at home. They're not there...yet. I hope they get things figured out!

Much better than the old place that was near here. Authentic and tasty across the board. I like it better than the one in Lahaina. Give this place some love.

Stopped by here for the first time yesterday to get a little bit of Hawaii. The food and people were excellent. The katsu was juicy and crispy. The curry was mild with a nice flavor. The musubi including the spam and chicken was delicious. The rice was perfect. There's also just something about Hawaiian macaroni that is so yummy. The service is a little on the slow side and the food takes a little bit longer to come up but that's pretty normal for aHawaiian food joint. It reminds me of the island quite a bit. If you want your Hawaii fix come here for some aloha. Mahalo.

Food tasted great. Just like home. That's the only good thing here. Portions were way way way too small. I have never been able to finish a Katsu plate at a l&l in hawaii. I finished this one and was still hungry. Plus it's more expensive than Hawaii too. Also got the bbq mixed plate with the kalbi and I got one tiny piece that was all bone and barely any meat or fat or even gristle!

L&L is a nice addition to Tucson's dining scene, especially if you're looking for some healthier options. I've had the BBQ chicken mini and light plates and the chicken has been tender and flavorful both times. The light plate comes with a salad (macaroni salad for mini and regular plates,) but the dressing options are limited, so I opted for the mini plate on my second visit. I'm not usually a fan of macaroni salad, but L&L's is really tasty and a nice accompaniment to the chicken. Staff is friendly and while wait times can be a bit long when they're busy, the food is worth it.

My rating is based on my 1st visit. Maybe a subsequent visit will make my star rating better (or worse). Having relatives and family there, I've visited the islands dozens of times & lived there during college (Go Chaminade!), I was happy to see L & L in Tucson. It was between lunch and dinner, and I wasn't very hungry, which is good b/c the portion of meat in my bowl (Kalua pork/cabbage/w rice) was surprisingly small :(. Rice was good, cabbage was not overcooked. But the star should be the protein! Meat was underseasoned & price was high ($10 for a very small bowl of food, mainly rice & 1/4 c cabbage). Hawaiian is generally: 1. Generous portions 2. Affordable. Ultimately, L&L should work on 1 or 2, (or both :) and I'd be back asap. Service was nice, place was clean. Hope things go up from here.

Counter service at this place. I didn't scan the menu thoroughly enough to see I had a choice in sides. I thought the counter person would have asked me which choice I would prefer, but that didn't happen. When I discovered this after looking at the menu after I ordered I tried to tell the cook as the counter person was taking another order and I didn't want to interrupt, but that didn't work out. I got 3 scoops of rice, but I asked for the tossed greens. I got tossed greens, but no dressing until I asked if there was dressing. It looks like they have Ranch and House, which looks like Thousand Island. The place is less than 10 tables so pretty small restaurant. The food was good, but not great. I understand inflation has hit us all pretty hard as of late, but for $21 the portions weren't great. This wouldn't be my 1st choice for "Hawaiian food" in Tucson.

I really wanted to like this place unfortunately, that was not the case. Food is way OVER PRICED, SMALL PORTIONS and POOR QUALITY. We ordered 3 plates and waited a bit for it and they came out room temperature. Plate was full of fillers like cabbage and not enough of what they're actually charging you for. Food is not made to order for the most part based on the plates we got. Not worth the price or time. This is below basic at best. Coming from an island girl family who was raised on Hawaiian Cuisine, THIS. IS. NOT. IT sadly.

I ate Hawaiian food in SoCal many times when I lived there. Friend had never had Hawaiian food and wanted to give it a try. Since I've always enjoyed Hawaiian food, I was up for it. Walking in, the place is well lighted and big enough for quite a few tables. After looking at the menu, friend ordered the BBQ beef rib mini plate. I ordered the pork/cabbage plate. I typically ordered the chicken or beef but thought I'd try something different. We sat down and within 5-7 minutes our food was brought to our table. I asked for soy sauce and some chili sauce; they had soy but only little plastic pouches of Cholula sauce. Friend's mini plate was a scoop of rice, macaroni and the beef ribs. Friend said that while the flavor of the ribs was really good, they were pretty fatty and sliced extremely thin. The ribs served in SoCal were around 1/4" (or more) thick; these weren't even 1/8" thick. I was surprised. My pork and cabbage came with two scoops of rice, macaroni and a generous portion of pork and cabbage. The flavor was excellent and the cabbage still had a bit of firmness to it. The place does a really good business. They were busy the whole time we were there. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. One of the bathrooms was shut down and so there was often a wait for the one remaining bathroom. So, the review is mixed. Friend wanted a 3 star review; I thought a 4 star review would suffice. I'm not sure I'll go back but if I do, I won't order the beef ribs - that was a disappointment.

I have not had Hawaiian comfort food since living in Oahu. We came here to celebrate my birthday. The chicken katsu curry and the BBQ chicken musubi were good, but my favorite was the rice and mac salad. The portions are large and could make for several meals. The place was clean, the workers were very nice, and the owner was very sweet. I wish they did not use so much plastic (containers and plastic ware) as there is a lot of waste.

Honestly the guy that helped us order was insanely nice, I had a good feeling about the food. However the chicken came out and was over cooked and dried out. More like Jerky than chicken. The white rice was good!

We ordered the barbecue chicken plate and the spam mutsubi and it was all AMAZING. We were blown away. The macaroni salad was incredible. We will be repeat customers for sure!!! If you're in the Tucson area and looking for Hawaiian barbecue, L&L is the best.
