around a hair in my california roll, waste of my money and quite honestly disgusted me for the rest of the day
Last call take out we had, and it was the worst sushi we ever had in Canada. Rolls were all broke down, and the rice tasted very old. Noodle was disgusting.

The service was very, very slow. A large party was there when we arrived, so I thought that was why we were being overlooked. But even after they left, it was the same.
My party of two also weirdly got served one water and one tea. The server said he was going to get more tea, but it never came.
When asked if I was ready to pay now, I said "Yes." I had to wait another almost 10 minutes to get the debit machine, all while watching the server making tea, packing to-go bags, etc.
No acknowledgement of all the waiting we were doing. The server wasn't alone, either. There were at least two other servers.
The food was decent, though the gomae was super bland.
We were there because we were hungry and in the area, so it was fine for that.

Gaya Sushi seems to be a popular pick-up service spot. While I was there, the door was revolving, with takeout orders being picked up
The restaurant is clean and had ample seating. Free parking out front with easy access to Lougheed Hwy.
Prices are on par with the current economy. Everything is getting so expensive, but that's across the board in Vancouver.
Service is friendly, and what I noticed was that EVERY time that front door opened, the staff greeted the person walking in. That made it feel inviting
Food tasty. I took a few pics. Tea nice and warm. Yam roll good. Avocado salad nice. Chopped scallop was ok
I'll be back.

I'm coming back! Called 3 minutes before to order, online menu is easy to read. Entered and my table is already set. Manager greeted me and food came within 3 minutes of sitting down. Clams are fresh, probably freshest I've ate in a restaurant. I ordered the seafood udon and forgot to snap a pic but I saw yakisoba noodle on the menu and will return for that!
Parking: Could accommodate at least 15 cars

I’ve been going for over 5 years but never left a review. I would say it’s the best sushi in Vancouver. Try the crazy girl roll.
Great service great food. Very chill

Quality Hole in the wall set up, cheap sushi, good quality. One of my fave spots in nanaimo for quick, cost friendly sushi?

I work in the area and have been eating in/take out for almost 10years.
The quality has been on a steady decline.
In my last order, the rice in the nigiri were not done right.
Im really sad to have 1 less choice for lunch at work.
Im probably never ordering from them again.
Staffs were friendly though.

The sunomono I had last time was twice the size. The chicken teriyaki don was deep fried and the sauce was like a black mud. Last time the chicken was grilled and the sauce was caramel colored and runny. The spicy roll combo was good. When I called in, 15 minutes after picking up, I was told the sunomono had been the same size for 10 years and the chicken was always deep fried.
I gave Gaya a second chance about a year ago after a similar experience. They gave Me a credit, and remade the order properly.
40 bucks, poor value, won't be back.

This sushi restaurant is a very good sushi spot. The prices are very reasonable, and the quality of the ingredients is top-notch. Everything is incredibly fresh. The service is also commendable—efficient and friendly. It's the perfect place for a delicious and affordable sushi experience. Highly recommended!
