I used to live in Japan and just came back from Tokyo yesterday. This place has an amazing atmosphere, good food, and staff. I enjoyed quality of fish and seafood on my chirashi don. Will be back.

Great authentic Japanese fare. Sushi rice tastes just like in Japan. The quality of fish is higher than those in other sushi restaurants we had visited in Burnaby. Service was a bit slow at dinner hour due to limited servers. The seating layout is a bit tight; just like in Japan.

i was tricked into coming here... hearing that it was japanese owned, i assumed that it would be AT LEAST decent, right? BUT NO IT WASNT- their nigiri and sashimi tasted like a week old fish- and in particular the scallop was slimy and stuck on top of ur mouth. not only that, but their rice on ALL their rolls were too sour cuz they added too much rice vinager. 0/5

their unagi roll didnt taste like it was torched, it tasted like it was BURNT TO A CRISPY -5/5

their chopped tuna something roll tasted like expired salad dressing 0/5

and their spicy salmon roll wasnt spicy but was sour cuz of the rice 1/5

overall 0/5 avoid this place like the plague

Always great food. Excellent staff. More traditional style japanese food compared to many other spots.

Went there two times, the place is good. I decided to go today, there was this note written on the door that says they are closed for 4 days. While on google maps it showed they are open, at least change your timings to ‘temporarily closed’, such a waste of time.

This is a cozy Japanese restaurant that I went to after being recommended by a Japanese friend!
Although the restaurant is small, there are plenty of places to sit and it seemed perfect for eating alone or with two people!
For food, I had sushi rolls and tempura udon, and it was clean and delicious!
The staff were all friendly, and it was interesting to be able to see sushi being made at the sushi bar.
If you are looking for a quiet, cozy, and clean Japanese restaurant, I recommend this place!!

The daily specials are amazingly fresh and this place is legitimately Japanese. Sure, Stem, Minami, Tozen, Guu or Sushihil are the top sushi/Japanese places in the lower mainland but l'd argue that Isami's food quality is just as good. The difference is they just don't have a social media presence or honestly care about their reviews. Their presentation is basic but it's a true hidden gem. The interior looks a little dated on the inside but my wife and I love this place.
Reminded us of real Japanese restaurants in Japan, homey and delicious. Get their ootoro, wagyu nigiri or uni and tell me it isn't on par with the freshness you'd get from the more expensive places in Vancouver, you'd be lying. This place is awesome, arigato gozaimasu, Isami!!!

Just came back from a trip to Japan and this place felt pretty close to what I've tasted and experienced there. Only down side are the vancouver prices which is understandable. Their karrage was delicious and the tonkatsu Don was filling ! Will definitely come back !
