I was disappointed on my recent visit to Old Xian at Crystal Mall. It used to be a go-to spot with some standout dishes, but the menu and quality felt different this time. I ordered the cumin beef and found the dish has too much pepper yet skimpy on meat, and lacking flavor after a while it mostly tasted like MSG.

As one of the few places serving biang biang noodles, this was kinda disappointing, especially since the Richmond location is much better. My food...

they used to have a spot on kingsway near joyce. they closed that one and opened one downtown, but as far as i’m concerned, this particular new store is a massive downgrade in quality.

also they specialty is not noodles, i don’t know why their english name is Noodle Express😑

It’s been months. I check the menu like it’s a missing person poster.
I whisper to myself: “Maybe today’s the day. Maybe is back.” It never is.

This wasn’t just food. This was an emotional support meal. That tender pork? The rice that soaked up every drop of flavor like it was born for this mission? The cabbage crunch? I have not known joy like that since 2016.

I’ve tried moving on. I’ve ordered...
