The food is really good, you can tell they make it with love haha
Thanks!
Just got back to Vancouver for good and wanted to revisit some favorite restaurants from 18 years ago. Sunshine Restaurant is one of them. I recognized the sign and menu; it’s all the same style as before, just in a different location. I remember it used to be beside the HKBC at Crystal Mall, but the server said they have never relocated. Maybe it’s been too long, and the server doesn’t know.
I also recall that the servers used to be a group of young ladies, but today I saw a middle-aged uncle and an older lady as the chef. Whatever.
As for the food, the taste remains the same as I remember. The chicken nuggets are still juicy and crispy, and the portion is good enough. However, the braised pork on the rice had a very small portion, almost like a condiment, which was disappointing.
Overall, the set is worth the price. In the past, I would also order a special drink with the set. However, the price of the drink is ridiculously expensive now—almost the same price as the meal set.
I visited around 3 pm today and was the only customer there. I’m not sure if it’s because it wasn’t rush hour or if the restaurant is having a hard time now. I remember it used to be busy all the time.
There are two recommendations for improvement: guest Wi-Fi and replacing the awful, dirty welcome carpet. The phone signal is completely interfered with in this restaurant, even when sitting by the window. It’s quite inconvenient in this era.
The best thing about this restaurant is that they still accept 10% tips.

Taste poor to average, small portion. Doordash is not helping either, very slow delivery, late by 50 minutes. Big regret!

Ordinary Chinese food at fair prices. A quieter alternative to the busy food court.
Love the Dan Dan noodle! The taste of Taiwanese traditional dish.

Cute little Taiwanese restaurant. Pretty delicious.
So delicious and affordable, food is well prepared.
Great food! Had the kimchi fried rice and it was quility. Would recommend if in the area. It should be busier then it is for how good the food is.
This is a really great yet humble place. Nice homestyle Taiwanese food, awesome juices and slushies. This is my go-to everytime I am in Vancouver, either dine in or delivery via Fan Tuan.
Vegetarian options: They have tasty vegetarian options. It's an expansive menu.
Kid-friendliness: We had our 6yo son and stroller. We just folded the stroller and parked it at an available spot in the corner of the restaurant.
This restaurant has been around for over 20 years, located in a quiet corner of Crystal mall in Burnaby. While the ownership might've changed, the food quality has remained the same. I went to Crystal mall food court but it was crazy crowded, so I came here for a nice and quiet lunch. Ordered the braised chicken rice with combo that came with side dishes and a drink. Nice bang for the buck. I'd highly recommend!
