Arrived at 4:15 to no lights or open sign visible but we were waved in by the owners and told if we wanted to order, it would be takeout, as they were closing soon (45 minutes before the sign and Google say they close).
I paid $21 before tip for the smallest, messiest, and blandest onigiri I have ever had, and the same pork buns you can buy from the grocery store for cheaper than the menu price here, which were microwaved to a middling warm-ish. The miso soup was watery and not nearly as hot as it should be and came in a small coffee cup; smelled off when the crock pot lid was removed.
The tables and chairs were strewn everywhere and the entire place was very dimly lit. On top of this it took about 10 minutes in a dead restaurant to receive our order.
I also had to step over a kid's play corner to get to the register. I have nothing against having enrichment for your kid while at work - kids need entertainment too - but put it somewhere customers will not have to walk through! Safe to say... We will not be returning.
My honest review is the atmosphere is awesome but the food is the worst thing I have ever payed money for, i think they make you pay before so you don’t complain once the food comes out.
I was trying to eat it out of respect but it was so bad and had to leave.
Ok place to go and get some work done but don’t bother eating here i had to walk out as the food was unbearable and tasted weeks old. don’t waste your money…

Great spot! Large space, food is priced really well, beautiful local art on the walls, and the atmosphere is laid back.

The people at the till are nice. The sushi was honestly the worst food I think I've ever been served. The rice was barely cooked. The nori was soggy. The rolls were small and messy, like a child made them. We ate a very small amount of it and left quietly. In the truck we debated the ethics of giving feedback to restaurant workers and felt anxious because our stomachs were empty and I don't think the coffee we ordered was actually decaf.

$5 for a small Nanaimo bar seems expensive.

Buckle up for an experience... Do not eat here, I failed to read recent reviews and paid the price. Staff were friendly, however when I ordered gyoza's I was asked if I wanted it just microwaved or pan fried for an extra 2 dollars... Microwaved should not be an option. I chose pan fried and also asked for a tuna bowl. I was informed that the wait would be ten minutes for fresh rice so that left me hopeful for a decent tuna bowl. The gentleman who took my order wasn't confident on his pan frying skills and asked one of the other staff if she could fry them for him which she obliged. She put them in the pan and then began sweeping out on the floor and completely forgot about my gyoza's and burnt them, the guy who didn't want to fry them came out and told her they were burning, to which she replied "f#$&" and ran back to the kitchen. She then came out and told me the news, she would also be making new ones so it would a few more minutes.(A better decision would have been to ask for my money back and leave) 20 minutes to get my pan fried gyoza's which came in a coffee to-go cup with a soy sauce that had an expiry date of 2020. These gyoza's were not burnt but were lightly fried and cold in the middle. They had the added bonus of a cardboard texture with an off taste. After another 10 minutes my tuna bowl arrived with fresh rice and very, very brown tuna. 30 minutes of waiting to politely say thanks, leave the building and throw that food poisoning in a box, directly in the garbage. It was amusing but definitely not worth the time or money. Coffee would probably be fine, but it's probably best to avoid this place. Cheers.
