2025.10.06. Deer One Hotpot pricing is CAD 4.50 per 100g. The pricing is disclosed on their large TV screen prominently displayed as CAD 2.25 per 50g. I completely failed to notice the second TV screen which offered fried food items available.
There's a point where too many signs become ineffective with the mind of overloading with visual pollution and goes into ignore mode.
They have a loyalty program by registering your telephone number. There's a 50% off of selected drinks with any hotpot order. Happy Hour Special 1400-1700 and 2030-2200 of 10% off your entire bill of CAD 20+; but noticed afterwards that I didn't receive a 10% discount when it was supposed to be in effect.
Come in, place yourself on a waiting list to be seated if crowded, register your vehicle for free parking. Get a pan and tongs, place ingredients to be weighed, choose your broth choice, and any drink for purchase. Complimentary cold water is provided. Several minutes will pass as your hotpot order is prepared and delivered. After you finished your food, dessert is offered and included, a choice of vanilla ice cream cone or steamed custard with black sesame sauce.
This would be my third hotpot restaurant visited in Richmond, and the most expensive so far of the three. Maybe the novelty of a hotpot is wearing off, but I felt the other two hotpot places were more fun as a group activity, and less expensive. Credit cards accepted, free WiFi.

When I went in yesterday, the cashier girl made a comment on my order to her colleague thinking I didn’t understand. I felt really disrespected. Food was okay but quite pricey compared to their competitors.

A customizable hotpot spot where you pay by weight. This location has a few different options for items to add to your bowl. I also thought their dessert was quite unique. You had the option to either get the black sesame dessert or ice cream.
They provide 2 hours free parking, you just have to register your car inside the restaurant on their tablet.

This Hot Pot restaurant is slightly more than its competitors, but I think it is worth the price. Their drinks taste very good and they also have a sauce bar. Your meal also comes with a dessert

Tasty but pricey. More expensive than Big Way at $45/kg. They weigh the metal clip too. Have unique/high end food items like pea tips, shrimp paste stuffed bean curd roll, etc. the fried corn appetizer was amazing. The complimentary dessert black sesame egg custard is the star, very sesame-y, not too sweet.

Good selection but noticeably more expensive than its competitors (and there’s a lot of DIY pots in Richmond). I get pretty much the same thing at all these hot pot places but my pot at Deer One is always about 25-30% more expensive. Also no free drink during lunch. There’s a reason why this place isn’t as busy as its competitors.

Absolutely delicious! I prefer the satay soup, but the pork bone and tomato soups are also pretty good. Everything is fresh and their drinks are refreshing.
The parking is also free for 2 hours (make sure you register your plates when you are getting seated).
My friend did ask me to remove one star though - there is no change table for babies :(

We prefer Deer One hotpot over Big Way hotpot. The variety of options is nearly the same, but the taste here is significantly better, fresher, and enhances the flavours.

Great customer service & atmosphere! A little more expensive than Big Way but I feel like they have a much larger selection to choose from. They have pea shoots, lucky tofu bags, fried bean curd, vegan konjac tripe (never seen it before so had to try it) and many more vegetarian options! Free sauce bar and ice cream dessert, loved eating here! Happy hour is also a 10% discount, which was a welcome surprise :)

Poor service. Staff needs to be trained to do good customer service. One staff was sneezing loudly, and hid at the back where the food ingredients are displayed, and sneezed again. Never eating here again.
Peak a lil expensive 💔 but good better than big way

Was expecting the bill to be quite hefty, but it wasn’t too bad! It was nice to enjoy the “weighted-soup” experience without the crazy crowds and full capacity. Plenty of ingredient variety and some delicious soup bases to choose from.
I tried the Spicy Tomato Soup at level 2—great balance of flavor and spice, though I probably could’ve gone a level higher. For dessert, we had the black sesame pudding. It was good, but a little light on the sesame flavor.
Overall, a great experience—will definitely be back!

Been here twice before without issue. Once at their soft opening and ~1 month ago. It has unique food choices that separate it from the other malatang places. Although on this 3rd attempt they took our orders, rung us up and before paying noticed 1 person (out of 2) was under $15 and said it was a $15 minimum per person. They said it was a rule but couldn't show it written anywhere? And tried to upsell more food/drink. This wasn't the case the previous 2 times and its a disappointing policy change when you have a partner who eats less. Furthermore, it contrasts with other locations that may have incentives for spending more. Disappointed and won't be coming back. Probably fine for most consumers--just not us anymore.

Super high quality broth - tried the tomato and pork bone and they were both the best I've tried (to my tastes, at least). A bit more pricey than others ($45/kg at the time of this review).
You get either ice cream or egg...pudding(?) thing at the end.
