With much disappointment, the food here is no longer good. Not too sure when they reduced the menu items, but of what is left and available, this restaurant has removed themselves from serving “Malaysian” cuisine and transitioned into a mediocre Asian restaurant. Sambal vegetables, tasted like garlic stir fry vegetables, no sambal or belacan taste. Assam fish was deep fried fish fillet in a sour diluted solution which was considered Assam curry. The hainanese chicken was served with a pool of gelatine soya sauce. That’s right, they chilled the hainanese chicken with the sauce, which made the soya sauce gelatined when served. Char kuey teow had 0 wok hey, didn’t have any taste. In other Chinese restaurants, they named this dish stir fry flat noodle. Rojak sauce was diluted. Stir fry egg plant was sweet. Nasi lemak is served with a deep fried chicken drenched in a sweet sauce, this is not Malaysian. John316 used to serve the best Malaysian food with variety, quality, and taste. What happened. Just a very disappointing experience overall and saddened by the transition this restaurant is taking. I hope some reflection takes place and you bring back the true taste of Malaysia cuisine. Remember your roots, it was what set you apart from other places.

Went here on a weekday to catch up with a friend and we are both pleasantly surprise with our overall experience. Portions are huge and everything we’ve tried is just tasty. Everyone should definitely try their nasi goreng. The sambal is sweet and spicy and full of umami and the anchovies gives a nice texture to it. Try to come in early as the restaurant gets full even on a weekday.

Beef satay on stick was chewy as gum. We tried returning it but the server said it wasnt allowed. We barely finished a stick coz it was simply uneatable. Touch move when you order here. Poor service.

This restaurant is so busy - a bit chaotic. The food is good, a bit on the salty side but still delicious. Perhaps I should’ve gotten some white rice with the food to dampen the savoury.

Food and service is decent but place turned me away by not taking any responsibility for the environment around the restaurant.Their front windows and entrance is dirty and parking behind the restaurant is filled with disgusting garbage...Never going back there since I don't want to support business that don't respect community they are doing business in ...Parking: Free parking behind a restaurant

I’m sad about this restaurant’s decline in quality. I used to love this place. I’m sure the chicken satay is still ok (it’s been more burnt than usual lately). This time I ordered the Char Koay Teow and it was an utter disappointment. The noodles were dry and I definitely tasted sand in it. I was crunching on the sand and it’s not pleasant. The oil they use is too heavy as well. I don’t feel so good after attempting to eat this order. There was also a hair in my order which is absolutely unbelievable and I don’t think I will order from them again. :(

This restaurant has pretty good authentic Malaysian food. All my family members enjoyed the food (Mee Goreng, Hokkien Mee, Beef Renang with rice and Prawn Mee soup) that we ordered. The only thing is having parking issue especially on rainy days where some parking lots were flooded, making parking spaces very limited.
Food and service was good. Had the skewers, ribs and brisket. Yummy!Free parking was great compared to the West Broadway location.

I’m a Malaysian living in the US. My partner and I have dined at Malaysian restaurants in NYC, Vegas, LA, Minneapolis Chicago & Vancouver. This location won hands down for the food. We ordered the Beef Satay, Beef Rendang Curry and Nonya Creamy Prawn. Absolutely delicious! Everything was packed with flavor. The beef was tender, tasted like it has been stewed for hours and the potatoes cooked just right. The coconut rice was very good. We devoured our food and had leftovers for the next day. We dined at Banana Leaf the next day and ordered the same items but just wasn’t as good as John 3:16. The atmosphere requires some work I would say. The ambience is not a place you would take someone on a date or celebrate an event but it’s where one would go just to have good food. Service was attentive and great. They deserved the tip we left them.

Ordered takeout from here a bunch of times but this was our first time dining in. The food definitely tastes better fresh and the staff are super friendly. The only downside was the sticky floors..highly suspect. But if you can look past it, this is one restaurant you have to try.
