I am an avid sushi connoisseur and moonlight as a sushi chef. My wife and I travel to Japan yearly just for omakase; most recently to Fukuoka specifically for gomae Saba and live squid. I was pleasantly surprised to find Kitcho in Vancouver. The hallmark of great nigri is not only the fish but the temperature, texture, and flavor of the rice. It was truly exceptional. We typically do not go to sushi restaurants to eat tuna, salmon, or yellowtail. We look for freshly cured mackerel, scallop from Hokkaido that has not been frozen (incredibly hard to find), and things like ayu or needlefish when they are in season. Go on a day when the fish arrives and ask for chef Chris who is incredibly knowledgeable. I would also recommend the uni tasting ; I know what the wholesale prices are and it's an incredible deal if you have more than a few people. This place is a hidden gem and I would put it up against any omakase place I've been to in Japan, San Francisco, and New York. Such a great find and I'll be going every time we visit Vancouver.

I came here for a late night snack. They recommended some delicious tuna sashimi and skewers! Very friendly service
Come out feeling kind of ripped off for the portion/quality.

I had dinner with my friends at Kitcho Izakaya last Saturday, and we did have a great time over there along with a lot of sumptuous food. The chef, Chris, was very friendly and he recommended us many tasty dishes. My wife likes uni a lot and the uni samplers were scrumptious, activating our taste buds at different levels gradually. The sushi was delectable as well, especially the Blue Fin Tuna, and it was just melting inside my mouth. For people who want some cooked food, the udon was delicious with homemade seaweed+dried fish broth, no msg or salty soup base. Grilled chicken skin should be another highly recommended dish, and the skin was extremely crispy with mouth watering aroma. The list could go on and on, Sakura shrimp tempura, clam soup, fresh oyster samplers, vanilla soft ice cream …. just to name a few.
