About Sushi Hachi

Sushi Hachi is a highly-recommended traditional sushi restaurant that offers high-quality dishes at reasonable prices. The menu features fresh and well-portioned sushi, including the delicious red shrimp and red sea bream kama. The assorted sushi set, which is highly praised by diners, showcases local and Japanese imported fish, highlighting the restaurant’s commitment to quality. Notable dishes include the unique saba battera, ankimo, tako wasabi, and uni. The restaurant provides an authentic Japanese dining experience with a cozy and intimate atmosphere, reminiscent of small sushi establishments in Japan. The decor is simple and relaxed, making it a perfect place for a leisurely meal. The chef prepares each dish with care, and the quality of the fish is exceptional, with many dishes like the unagi nigiri, chutoro, and bluefin tuna belly (Chu Toro) standing out for their freshness and flavor.

The sushi set is particularly recommended for its variety, offering everything from rich tuna to buttery hamachi and delicate shima aji. The cold freshness of the fish meets the gentle warmth of the rice, and the miso soup is also noted for its deep fish umami and savory miso. Portions may be small, but the flavor and quality more than compensate. Service can be a bit slow, as the restaurant is family-owned with limited staff, but they are attentive and the experience is worth the wait. Despite the occasional delays, Sushi Hachi remains a small, charming spot that offers great value for authentic Japanese cuisine. It is especially recommended for sashimi lovers, offering a variety of fresh cuts that impress even seasoned diners. Reservations are advised, especially on weekends.

During a recent business trip, I craved sushi and decided to visit Sushi Hachi because it was conveniently close to my hotel. It truly was the highlight of my trip. The husband-and-wife owners were incredibly warm and welcoming from the moment I arrived, which delivered an exceptional dining experience. This was easily the finest sushi I have experienced in Canada. Whether you are visiting the area for business or leisure, I highly recommend dining at Sushi Hachi.

Oh, I simply LOVE Sushi Hachi! I come here every time I’m in Vancouver, no matter how long or short the trip is.

Owned and run by a lovely Japanese couple, it’s as authentic and down-to-earth as it gets. The quality has stayed consistently high over the years, and the fish is always so fresh! I almost always get the Deluxe Chirashi Don, but my absolute favorite is the negitoro roll—my mouth is watering just thinking about it now!

Perfect kanpachi, hamachi and chu-toro. Truly cured to perfection. Polite and kind service. I didn’t know bbq eel (unagi) could be simultaneously crisp, fluffy and juicy. Ankimo was smooth and non-fishy, better than foie gras.

A must visit. Don’t let the weird parking scare you.
