We’re regulars at Anh and Chi because the food is consistently excellent. Today we ordered right after being seated; dishes arrived quickly and were great. Our server (tall guy, curly blonde hair) didn’t do a “how is everything” check during the meal, that turned out to be fine given the reliable quality.
The issue was paying. After finishing, and about 10 minutes of trying to get our server’s attention (with parking about to expire), I approached him; he said he was busy and walked away without indicating when he’d return. I then went to the bartender to settle up and we were working it out when the server came back, interjected, said he was busy helping another guest sort out payment, and redirected the process.
He didn’t even come back, another staff member ultimately brought the bill, which only extended the wait and made things awkward. I just stood at the bar while this guy brought our bill over feeling like I was the bad guy for just wanting to pay and leave.
I understand service can be busy, but a personal touch would have made a big difference. We love this restaurant and come often; sharing this so it can be addressed, as this experience makes me second guess returning. This was our only interaction with him besides ordering food and it felt curt.

The only great Banh Mi sandwiches I've ever had were in San Francisco, New York, and London. Still, I'm on a quest to find a great Banh Mi in Vancouver. I've tried several, all have disappointed, and the latest was from Anh and Chi. The grilled chicken filling was terrific but the bread was dry, slightly stale, and certainly not a French baguette that any French baker would recognize. Pity. At fifteen bucks I would have thought Anh and Chi would use a real French baguette. Oh well.

We visited this very popular Vietnamese restaurant for lunch over the weekend. We didn’t want to pay the $10 per person mandatory deposit to reserve a table, so we decided to show up early and line up before they opened. Luckily, there was no line when we arrived, and we were seated right away.
We ordered a glass of sparkling wine, but it came out flat. I mentioned it to the server, and to their credit, they replaced it immediately—no questions asked—and I saw them open a fresh bottle, which I appreciated.
Food-wise, we tried the chicken wings, the bánh mì, and the popular vermicelli bowl with beef and spring rolls. The wings and vermicelli were solid, but the bánh mì was a bit of a letdown. The bread was soft instead of crispy, and the filling was underwhelming. I've had much better bánh mì elsewhere, so I wouldn’t recommend it here—it's probably not their specialty.
Overall, the service was attentive and the experience was okay, but I’d come back for other dishes, not the bánh mì.

Not a kid friendly place. We asked for a no peanut on our food and the waiter seem like he wants to throw a tantrum. Horrible service. 8/24/25 @ 7:10PM.

Food was amazing. Service was great. Design of the restaurant was superb. The only negative comment is the LONG wait for a table if you don’t have a reservation. For those thinking of this place, please make reservation ahead of time.

Very mediocre place... Not worth the hype at all. The service was pretty bad as well. There's wayyyy better Vietnamese places in Vancouver, you can totally skip this one. Vegan food exists but has no flavor. I do like Vietnamese food but this specific place is very average and overhyped. Even the drinks were not good.

I ordered delivery, which took 50 minutes and arrived without cutlery or napkins, and the food itself was not very good.

I’ve been a loyal patron of Anh & Chi and always had delightful visits in the past. Unfortunately, my recent experience today was disappointing because of a rude and unhelpful staff, Maria.
I brought my mum, who was only in town for a day, specifically to try the restaurant, as I’ve always loved the food and service here. We also had our two dogs with us, one of whom was unwell, so we hoped to sit on the outdoor patio.
Regrettably, the front-of-house staff who served us, Maria, was unhelpful from the start. I first enquired about the outdoor patio seating, which I was told wouldn’t open until 5 p.m. It was only 3 p.m., and I suggested we might simply tie the dogs near the entrance of the outdoor area - exactly as the team had graciously accommodated us the last time under similar circumstances. That previous experience had been warm and thoughtful, with staff going out of their way to help us find a solution.
This time, however, Maria’s response was markedly different. When I asked if we could order takeaway and eat it at the patio seating, she replied with a sarcastic, “Well, I can’t stop you from sitting there.” Her tone throughout was reluctant and dismissive, giving the impression that accommodating us was a burden. Even when we suggested ordering takeaway to avoid any extra trouble, her attitude remained curt, as if we were an inconvenience rather than customers trying to find a respectful compromise.
We spent about 10 minutes outside in the sun trying to figure out a way to patronise the restaurant in good faith. The final cherry on top was when she told us that the dish we wanted wasn’t available for takeaway - without any empathy or helpful alternatives or willingness to assist.
This experience was far below the standard I’ve known from Anh & Chi. Unfortunately, it’s driven both me and my mum away, and I feel so embarrassed for raving about this restaurant to my mum and her experiencing this instead. I feel compelled to suggest that the management ensure that Maria receives proper hospitality training, or alternatively, not be placed at Front of House. Maria’s attitude was not at all reflective of the lovely service I’ve had in the past, and it’s a real shame to see such a wonderful place let down by poor customer care on this occasion.

Delicious Vietnamese food! I understand now why this place awarded for 3 (2022-2024) consecutive years the Michelin guide. The restaurant has a modern atmosphere with a nice tropical decoration. Staff is friendly, our waitress has an exceptional knowledge of the dishes and made good recommendations. Food feels authentic and tasty, the spring rolls were crispy in the outside but juicy and rich in flavors in the inside, plus the sweet-citric sauce combined perfectly with it, the beef noodle soup was amazing, the broth had an intense flavor, super yummy, big portion for 2 people easily, the sorbet was the grand finale, the fruit flavors were extraordinary. I will definitely go back to try other items of the menu. This was a pleasant food experience. The only negative point is the wait list (around 30-40 minutes), understandable due to the good food quality served in here, but people that arrived after us, entered first, which was not quite fair.
