Tempura Udon was really nice

Joyce Humphrey

Came during the tail end of the lunch specials, which seems to be good value.

Food: fair and satisfying. It wasn’t mind blowing, but for the price, it was good. Nicely prepared and presented.

Service: there was only one other table at the time and it took awhile to place our order and get our food, or the bill. Overall, it was slow.

Atmosphere: while the decor was reminiscent of Japan, the cleaniness left little to be desired. There were caked on stains on the cushion, curtains and walls. And a parade of ants along the bench and windows. After discretely mentioning this to the server, while she said “sorry”, she didn’t do anything to investigate or try to resolve the issue - that was worrisome.

The atmosphere is very Japanese. The food is amazing fresh and has lots of GF options. The servers are friendly and speak Japanese.

It was the only place we could walk to from our Airbnb and it hit the spot. The tempura was really good. Crispy and the sauce was good. The ramen was so so. Noodles weren't my favorite style but maybe that's just me. Meat was a bit fatty. Overall I had a good experience. The server was attentive and kind.

Parking: Construction on oak is a pain but there are lots of parking options! Food is great and reasonable! At our table there were teriyaki Don bowls, miso soup, ebi sunomono, vegetable tempura, agedashi tofu, spicy expression roll, real crab California roll, wild sockeye roll, and an unagi roll. Shared between 5 sisters for bday dinner!

I have patronized Applause probably 60 times in the last few years. It punches above its weight in terms of quality. I'll be back as long as it's open.

If you're in South Vancouver and you like sushi, this is the best quality and price balance all around.

Tried the sukiyaki don and a sushi combo. The sukiyaki don was mediocre in taste and comparable to Edo food court food but with less flavour and not as good. The sushi was also very average and the rice they use tastes of poor quality and is on the harder and drier side without that vinegary sushi rice flavour. It’s edible and okay but not fantastic.

Good sushi restaurant for a simple lunch or dinner!

I got the chopped scallop sushi combo that came with 3 pieces of nigiri, a side salad, and a vegetable croquette. The service was friendly and efficient with prompt beverage refills.

This, might be , the best restaurant in Marpole! I have taken the boat down the grade, from time to time , I will never miss this place. I have seen a lot of bots leaving bad reviews! I don’t think that is relevant in this A.Intelligence powered generation ! I started coming here for the chicken karage and have stayed because this is the sunniest neighborhood in Vancouver. If you don’t get a hello when you walk in the door , I think you should figure out what you are doing wrong dear friend!

Excellent Japanese owned and operated restaurant! Sashimi is all fresh and high quality. Very generous portions in their sushi rolls. 3 tall Sapporo or Asahi always on special. Restaurant was recently awarded best Japanese restaurant, beating out a very popular restaurant at Canada place. Prices are super reasonable and good value.

They don't do a very good job keeping their fish fresh. I've only been there four times, and already got spoiled fish twice: once in a spicy tuna roll, and once as a salmon sashimi... Not coming back.
