Surprised this place has such low ratings. My friends and I thoroughly enjoyed here. Very cool concept of the speakeasy. Interiors are done well and has a lovely vibe to it. There was a pianist abs a singer performing and they were very good, everyone was happy with chatting within their group but also enjoying the music. Food and drinks were good too - nothing to write home about but certainly nothing to complain about as well.

Can't beat the atmosphere here. Unlike most places in Vancouver.
I could also eat their dumplings everyday

review was made in connection with a Toast promotion

Personally I had a great time there! Both food and service were amazing and the vibes were on point. Yeah, it’ll be a bit more on the expensive side but it’s definitely worth a try regardless if you’re looking for the next speakeasy! Unique concept with unique food. Love the dumplings.

I'm quite surprised why this place has a low rate! It's a great hidden bar and the quality of food/drinks you get, is well beyond most bars in Vancouver. It's not a fine dining place obviously, but the service and quality of food we received was amazing. Everyone was amazing and their recommendations was good. The only thing that I didn't like as much was the music style, but I would definitely go back many more times!

The experience was a bit less than I was expecting.
The front patio bar was ok for a drink while we waited.

This is my second visit and once again I was blown away. The immersion into a different world as you walk through the door is something that will never get old! The creativity of the menu, the cocktails are phenomenal and the dumplings are some of the best I’ve ever tasted. I’m already excited to come back! Thank you!

The atmosphere is really cozy as you'd expect from a speakeasy. The staff were very friendly. The cocktails were creative and different, but came with a huge block of ice in each drink. A highball glass that's 1/4 drink made look full due to the ice. The drinks are definitely not your usual spirits so be prepared to have your taste buds challenged.

This place is about who you know. Got there and was told it would be an hour to three hours wait depending on who stays. Oddly enough "friends" of host showed up and she was able to "see what I can do", and less then a minute wait they were on their way and seated.

The racism was A LOT. The racism was REALLY bad. The outside decor seems to be a racist attempt to emulate an Asian vendor shop. The artwork there are actively racist caricatures of East Asian people, and when combined with the information that it’s white owned, makes one particularly suspicious regarding the ethicality of this restaurant occupying space in Chinatown. The interior is a very white, western take on the plush 1920s, and seems an interesting (appalling) example for someone’s thesis on the topic of Vancouver’s displacement of people of colour in favour of white gentrification. To make things even worse, the 1920s theme seems to extend to an ethic racial segregation. Looking through the reviews, there are NUMEROUS reports of people of colour being denied entry, and these reports being flippantly dismissed by the owner in blatant white fragility, denial and gaslighting.Only one option for a drink that doesn’t contain alcohol. When asked if they recommended it, they responded pretty condescendingly that it was the only drink they would offer. Sugar and cane is a speakeasy with an extensive menu of nonalcoholic drinks, as do most Vancouver and Victoria speakeasies. The dumplings were just, bad. And so expensive.
