First time at their new location on Alma since Bon Ton's closure on West Broadway. Space was bright; modern decor mixed with nostalgic wall hangings. Smaller than their old location with a pared down selection of baked goods and pastries. Was happy to see their iconic Diplomat Cake still available, albeit their prices have increased greatly. The cake did taste how we remembered - flaky pastry, rum-infused moist sponge cake, smooth buttercream, and a powdered sugar finish....
Recently purchased some Philippine Pastries, for my mother, who is a longtime customer, these were not up to standard, she said they were not made with butter, maybe margarine or lard, and the pink on top was not the same as it used to be
First time visiting the new location and have been thinking about the diplomat cake.
They were sold out of the small size but even if they had had one I wouldn’t have purchased it for $49. I know everything is more expensive these days but…
I was surprised to see the offerings of pastries and cookies are much fewer and the cake cabinet is much smaller than at the old location.
Decor/atmosphere is now very sterile.
