“A great landmark that has been around for over a 100 years under different names. Recommend by the concierge at our hotel and so glad that we took his advice.
Food, service and vibe are exactly what a diner should be. Take your kids so that they know what a diner was like…before they are all gone! Old jukebox, door handles shaped like cutlery, tabletop seating, the checkered tiles and fake leather seats…what’s not to love! Bottomless coffee, friendly servers, one main cook in the little kitchen making all the food. Love it! Eggs Bene was the real deal.

“I recently visited The Basic on Main Street in Vancouver with my best friend and my two kids, and we had such a wonderful experience. The atmosphere is casual, comfortable, and gives off a really wholesome family vibe — perfect for a relaxed meal out. I ordered the veggie hash, which was absolutely amazing — fresh, flavorful, and super satisfying. The kids loved their pancakes, and my daughter was thrilled with her hot chocolate topped with whipped cream (a big hit!). Our server, Jesse, was fantastic. “If you're tired of overpriced pretentious restaurants in Vancouver, and want some old school comfort food served by experienced attentive staff, you must try this Vancouver landmark. First time I've been here in 50 years and it will not be the last. The sole waitress was also the hostess, cashier, busser, and coffee refiller. The owner cooked, served and cashier. With restaurants dropping like flies in Vancouver due to high cost and labour shortage, it's amazing to see how efficiently this old school diner is run to keep labour cost and menu prices down.“

“We ordered two pork roujiamo, spicy cold liangpi, handmade youpo noodles, and chicken wonton soup. Everything was so good. The roujiamo was packed with meat and really satisfying. The liangpi and youpo noodles tasted very authentic too. Definitely recommend if you’re craving real Chinese street food 👍“

“Honestly for a food court place I didn’t know what to expect. But it’s pretty good. Had low expectations but the congee and the rice noodles were so well made. The congee wasn’t watery, perfectly flavoured, no shortage of ingredients inside and the rice noodle was very well made. Good QQ and the amount of meat is very good for what you pay. I like to think of this place like Chinese tapas.“
