Honestly, eating at Gather is like having a bipolar girlfriend. Some days are great, with awesome options available, like mac' n' cheese, or brisket. Other days, horrendous, mushroom burgers and bland tofu. Staffing is equally inconsistent. Staff members like Alma, or Rey, are always incredible. Very personable people, kind, caring. Other staff members are frequently rude, talk back to you for no particular reason, or only very reluctantly accommodate dietary restrictions....
Unless you live in Place Vanier, it may seem inconvenient to come all the way to Gather for food, but when their best options are available it is 100% worth it.
One thing I noticed about the 3 UBC dining halls is that they try their best to be high quality, so when it took 5 minutes for my ordered poke bowl to be made I knew that it would be good. The fish tasted fresh and the bowl was stuffed with kimchi, edamame, and other goodies that I did not expect them...
