One of my favorite Japanese restaurant in downtown, their dish style is so Japanese, you can enjoy their Gyu(beef) cuisine.

The don is so bad and the sides that come with the meal is a✨disaster✨. The beef is Dry and hard as old leather shoes and has no favours at all. I will say it’s the 5 dollar supermarket fake Japanese food quality.

If you like beef tongue you definitely need to check this place out, and if you don't, this would be the place to try something new. I've always loved beef tongue so I was so excited to try this new authentic Japanese restaurant. We shared 3 traditional gyutan sets between the 3 of us. Each set is served with their house soup, pickles, and mugi-meshi (barley rice) or udon. We got the barley rice, it was really slimy, but tasty. I would recommend ordering off the Chef's Selection menu if you value quality. We got the premium gyutan flyer and the meat was so juicy, tender and flavourful. We also ordered the thin cut usukiri gyutan and it was ok, but wasn't amazing. Go for the thick cut if you like your meat more flavourful and tender, and pick the thin cut if you like your meat more chewy. I really enjoyed my experience here. Next time I'm here I want to try their gyuten don set & gyuten curry set.

I didn't have high expectations given the 2 star rating but I was pleasantly surprised. The ambiance was nice and good was tasty. Service was good as well. They do close early at 9pm but otherwise it was good. We ordered a curry, a beef set, a beef and tendon stew and the chopsteak.

I should have read the reviews before going (not the 5 star ones).......microwaved food would've been better..Long wait time for not very delicious food...do yourself a solid and stay away from here.

I am sad to report this is exactly what happened here, was looking forward to try this "Ox Tongue" Speciality restaurant for a while but due to Covid and other commitments, today we finally find time to do so. I have to say from the get go, the ambiance & the service staffs made the first impression really well, after our order came out disappointment sets in: First off: the plating of food was sloppy ( remember you are a "Speciality Restaurant! ), rice was not properly filled and grains were sticking all over the bowl, the so called "pickled vegetables" were not done properly as they were just blanched without any flavour at all, even the green pepper mixed with miso(?) was bland! Also, the temperate were not right, they were warm, they should be served slightly chilled. Meat quality was just average, and if you are a Speciality Shop for Ox Tongue, you would do Ox Tongue right!! (Average chewing time for each piece of Ox Tongue = 5mins!!) As customers we come here for that very special item you say you are expert in, but this is totally wasting the ingredients, and I feel sorry for the front service staffs as they do a very good job here, but the kitchen staff needs to really look into what they are doing! And in these very difficult times, keeping a business is not easy, and if your food quality is less than mediocre, all I can say is "What a pity & best of luck!" Anyways, I will NOT be back!

Ever had that experience of eating something that is "bland" that made your tastebuds disappear after the first 2 bites!? It is a bit weird that this place doesn’t seem very popular on the bustling Robson St. I live in the neighborhood, but every time I pass by here, business is just okay compared to other restaurants nearby. However their food is pretty decent, nice and cozy atmosphere, good service. My first dining experience here was excellent. A hidden gem I guess?

I am in love with this restaurant! I am happy to see the first Japanese restaurant specialized on beef tongue in Vancouver (and North America). Besides very interesting menu to try something new, the design and decor is very nice. I loved variations of beef tongue, but if it's your first time I'd recommend to go with a thin cut. It tastes amazing. If you are at Robson and you want to try something special, Gyusen is the place!

Mediocre food, with prices that don’t match the quality. Service is totally lacking, your typical Chinese owned Japanese restaurant. With a relatively empty restaurant it still took awhile to even get some water. Side salad was clearly browning and beef tongue was mediocre (not $25 quality at all). The waiter was able to mess up a simple order with rice given when udon was ordered. On the same block there are much better choices for food.

Recommend trying if you haven't. It's good!

The food here is fantastic. I recommend getting either the AAA beef or the beef tongue thick. I tried out the housemade sauce with the AAA beef and soysauce with the beef tongue. The service is good too.
