The Oakham Curry Club (OCC) is one of the worlds most respected reviewers of Indian cuisine. With multiple international franchises, we relentlessly scour the globe in pursuit of the crispiest poppadoms, the tastiest sauces and spiciest curries.
On Thursday November 20th, newly founded OCC Vancouver made the pilgrimage to Handi Grill to have its founding meeting and give its first review.
The average rating score among the members averaged out to 7.8, being OCC approved. Handi Grill offered prompt and friendly service in a warm and inviting atmosphere. There’s a stage which has room for live musicians, but as it was a Thursday, the band wasn’t playing, instead we were treated to hip modern Indian pop tunes.
Soon after we were all seated and greeted, the server spent no time delaying taking our drink orders, of course we requested ice cold Kingfishers for each at the table. We were graced by the presence of the manager for our food order, she gave excellent recommendations on how many sides to order based on what we chose as mains, overall showing great knowledge of the proportions of her dishes.
The garlic naan came warm and soft, and kept its pleasant texture throughout the meal. A standout dish was the tandoori fish, perfectly seasoned and cooked, not showing a single bit of evidence of dryness, fantastic. Everything that was ordered was quite good and we were all satisfied with the portioning between 5 at the table, and to top the meal off with pleasant service, this was an indelible dining experience, and a great founding meeting.

I’ve come in person a few times and have always loved the food each time. I find the full dinner (naan, rice and daal) to be the perfect size alongside a main dish. Bit pricey but I expect that in sit-down restaurants and definitely think it’s worth it. I would and (have) come back again and that’s a win in my books.

Ordered panipuri on food app, see the fillings how they gave literally big sized cooked potato. This is my first time saw such ridiculous filing, if I get a chance to meet this restaurant owner, I would like to sponsor tickets to him to India and he needs to learn what is panipuri filling.

I recently ordered Masala Fries, Paneer Butter Masala, and Garlic Naan from Handi Grill, and I must say the experience was delightful. The Garlic Naan, in particular, was soft, thin, and perfectly cooked, showcasing the chef’s skill. The food quality was excellent, and the flavors were rich and satisfying. For those who prefer a spicier taste, I recommend mentioning your desired spice level when ordering, as they customize it to your preference. The restaurant’s ambiance was charming and welcoming, and the staff were polite, attentive, and well-mannered. I highly recommend Handi Grill to anyone looking to enjoy an authentic taste of Indian cuisine.

The food absolutely blew us away, when we came to this Indian restaurant not expecting anything except for a ordinary meal. Instead, we received the best food we have ever had. The paneer(cottage cheese) melting in our mouths. The naan was incredibly crisp, thin, soft and tasty, the perfect companion. Samosa chaat being the amazing starter, and the masala chai was the chefs kiss. My only regret is that our flight is the next day and we can't take the restaurant with us. Amazing food!! Exemplary service!!

Bit pricey, but its expected for the location. Great tasting food and excellent customer service by the fellow in the front. Had a local beach day and two take out orders without any hiccups! There on the ball.
Once again, Handi gave us a great meal. We loved the Tandoori Chicken and Aloo Gobhi. We have ordered take-out many times and it is consistently delicious.

We loved the handi when they were on Dunbar but it has gotten super expensive and we were very disappointed tonight. We got take out so not commenting on atmosphere or service. The chicken pakoras were dry and the butter chicken came with about 4-5 small chunks of chicken and a ton of sauce. I will make chicken and resurrect it tomorrow but not what I expected. I want to support local businesses but this was not great for $143 for four people. Very let down.

A Hidden Gem for Indian Cuisine Lovers!
I’ve been to many Indian restaurants, but this one truly stands out. The food is absolutely amazing — rich in flavor, perfectly spiced, and consistently delicious. Every dish feels thoughtfully prepared, and the generous portion sizes make it a great value for the quality you receive.
My personal favorite is the Chana Masala. It’s a perfect balance of hearty chickpeas, tangy tomato, and aromatic spices — comforting, flavorful, and incredibly satisfying. I find myself craving it often!
The staff are mostly very friendly and welcoming, which adds to the warm and relaxed atmosphere. It’s clear they care about both the food and the customer experience.
Whether you’re a seasoned fan of Indian cuisine or trying it for the first time, this place is definitely worth a visit.
