Very good. High-quality food and vibes, they are very good with allergies as well. Very good service and food was amazing :))
Honestly, one of the most genuine displays of customer service we’ve ever received at a restaurant.
Initially, due to a miscommunication we were not served promptly on a Monday night and left as a result… BUT the owner (Justin) saw us elsewhere an hour later, went out of his way to apologize profusely, welcomed us back, & took care of us.
Unfortunately, their kitchen was closed for the night by the time we returned, but the food looks amazing & we will happily come back to give them more business as we visit this week.
EDIT June ‘25: We’ve since been here a couple of times. The service continues to be lovely and spicy pork ishiyaki bowls are to die for. Thanks to Justin’s service, this has become one of our go-to spots in Yaletown. Highly recommend.
A lot of the time, the restaurant is only as good as the server. Hapa is a superior restaurant and my server was Shione! She recommended the Chipotle. I went with that and it was real tasty!
How a server interacts with the customer is the most important part of the experience. She reacted as though she was rewarding me for going out to enjoy my food. Her mannerisms told me that my presence was important instead of someone who was just making her work. Thank you!🙂
Both the staff and the food were excellent.
Tapas were absolutely delicious! I also have no spice tolerance and the server was super accommodating. Spicy items were brought on the side and she even brought out a sauce for me to try so I could confirm if it was spicy to me. And the saba torched table side was so fun!
Cocktails were also amazing, love the sake sangria especially!
Love their late night happy hour deals.
Highly recommend the happy hour menu. Everything on the menu is amazing and at very reasonable prices.
There are some really creative Izakaya dishes that I’ve not tried anywhere else! For a more substantial meal, I’d recommend getting the hot stone rice bowls that’s also available on the happy hour menu!

On the recommendation of work colleague we went to Hapa tonight after we flew in from Calgary. I rarely give 5 star reviews but I have to say Hapa is one of the best Japanese restaurants my wife and I have been to. The atmosphere is super fun with great music, great service and amazing food. We’ll definitely be back on our next visit and will recommend it to others!! Thank you!

They don’t have a huge selection of Japanese cuisine items here, but the things that we did order were not bad. The sushi is not the best, but it was yummy. I really loved the dessert, although it could have come with a bit more ice cream. The patio seating is amazing, I had a very enjoyable time sitting out there.
Update:
I have been here in the past and it was not bad, but that was years ago and this most recent time that I have revisited turned out to be a mistake. The quality here is not great and I found that a lot of the food was either missing the mark based on flavouring or it was cooked to be soggy or overdone. We had to re-order the garlic bread because it was hard as a rock. The cooked fish by itself was not bad though, I did not mind that dish although I think it could have been cooked to be a tad more tender.
3/5
nth special and I think they need more selection.
