Always have such a lovely time here! The food is so good. The tej is so so good and homemade. The artwork and space is really beautiful. In the summer, they have great outdoor seating :)

I’m going to keep it a full 5 stars because it’s local, not a chain, authentic with great food but there were a few negatives to my overall positive experience.
The good:
yummy food
generous portions for the price
Great decor
Friendly
Fair prices
The bad:
Forgetful service. Ordered the same thing multiple times.
The wine.. both were watered down: please don’t do that :(

My first ever experience eating Ethiopian cuisine and I loved it so much! The servers were so kind and the food was absolutely amazing! I especially loved the dumaskli soup and will definitely be back to try it again :)

Fantastic food! Very big portions and very well priced! Definitely get your moneys worth! I’d recommend the veggie or meat combo that’d do 2-3 people easily for $35! Staff is very friendly too!

We've been eating on and ordering out from Harambe for years. Their food is so tasty. Our entire family loves it and it's such a treat. Dining in is nice as well, with a great relaxed atmosphere and attentive servers. We highly recommend Harambe to anyone looking for an authentic Ethiopian dining experience.

I’m really disappointed about my experience here.
Recently, I started going to Harambe as a quick and tasty treat on my lunch break.
I stopped, however, because their vegetarian special/combo is really oily. Way more than it needs to be.
So I ordered Misir Wot - my fave - for takeout, hoping that, as the least oily one, it would be passable.
Unfortunately no. It was overflowing with oil to the extent that it spilled out as I carried it back to my office.
I’ve had this at other Ethiopian restaurants and it is not at all oily. I filled 3/4 of a cup with the oil that I POURED OUT of my takeaway container.
Won’t eat here anymore. Go to Gojo up the street if you want Ethiopian. Happy to change my review if management replies.

The waitress was so pleasant, kind, helpful with menu options, she admitted to being new to the restaurant but was absolutely devoted to her task and to customer experience. Shortly thereafter the owner arrived; a kind man, a bit awkward-would be well-served to introduce himself to tables before he serves; for a second you don’t know if he is a customer or staff! Can be off putting to some. But his intention is good.
who wanted things to be just right but didn’t let the young lady do what she clearly knows how. When the food was brought to the table, she invited me to take a picture of the presentation before she completed the platter delivery process! She is truly awesome!
The owner is attentive and has a beautiful dining space; ambiance was excellent. The service too.
Food
The food, was very good but not fantastic; one of the items on the veg platter was oddly sweet. Having eaten Ethiopian & Eritrean food for 2 decades on 3 continents; it was a new experience to me. The berbere was not fully fresh or potent but was still quite good.
The injera, this one made with rice, does have a sour tinge to it as written about by other reviews; but the taste is accurate. I wasn’t offered teff injera but thats likely not known about among locals here.
Try the Fried Banana Tibs! Big flavour, bargain price!
The food is a 4.5/5 for me.
Local scene:
I queried the list of Ethiopian restaurants in Vancouver; having eaten at a few; this is the best but not a 100% homage to the flavours I know and love.
This is the best in BC certainly.
Will be back because of the extraordinary service.
While present, 5 tables were occupied; 2 larger (6+) tables, and groups of friends. Lovely ambiance where robust alcohol offering is available but isn’t at all pushed on the customer.
Insist on being served by Mariam (5 stars) and deservedly, please tip her well! Everything within her control is well done!
Overall experience: 4.5/5

Restaurantji Recommends
This is an unacceptable amount of oil. And it doesn’t taste good. 0/10. Please improve.
Your injera makes my stomach hurt, please fix your injera.

LOVE HARAMBE!
Our friends introduced us to this restaurant 3 weeks ago and since then we've been back once a week, every week.
The food is SO DELICIOUS!
Last time my wife and I had the veggie share platter and the cocnut soup. We are now big fans of wonderful Ethiopian cuisine.
FIVE STARS ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
