Hy ended up being my second steakhouse visit in Vancouver after a disappointing first stop elsewhere (which traumatized me for a bit); alas, traditions demand I eat steak and red wine for my birthday.Fortunately, this was a pretty nice experience in comparison. The steaks were properly cooked as requested, the mashed potatoes were smooth, and the cheese bread certainly lived up to its hype. The tartare was slightly disappointing; however, I would say that the extensive wine list and quality of service made up for it.

amazing service and amazing sear on the prime bone in rib steak 20oz it also had amazing flavor and the texture was also amazing, the salad was fresh and tasty, their famous cheese bread was amazing with a decent cheese pull. Recommend to come here for dinner, all the food above is a must try.

Excellent food and impressive service. You can’t miss the bone rib eye steak and cheese toast is just to die for. The service is amazing I found it a little pushy but I’m introvert so may it’s on me. But absolutely 100% worth the visit. And drinks are great a little on the higher side but hey you actually do get what you pay for. So big shout out.

I booked Hy's for a birthday celebration for our son. Our experience started very well. The ambience and atmosphere were excellent. Our server Blaire was a seasoned professional and added just the right amount to our evening. Cheesy bread was excellent as was the ceaser salad made tableside by Blaire.So far all was excellent and we were enjoying the evening. Then my wife's beef wellington arrives, along with my 14oz NY striploin and our son's 15oz bone in striploin which was the special this evening. At the pricing level one would expect only the highest of quality. The beef Wellington (beef tenderloin with a pastry top) had a vinegary taste and looked a very unappatizing colour and was well done verses medium rare as ordered. She could not eat it. The NY bone in strip was quite tough. Edible but at a average restaurant quality. My strip loin was also edible but again somewhat chewy. No manager visited us, but we did not request one either. Blaire handled thing very well and despite mywife and I saying more than once we would pay the bill the main dishes were removed from the bill. The birthday evening was not recoverable. I don't profess to be a conisour of fine steak but I can tell quality from mediocre and with top shelf steak even if you blow the cooking the meat will still be tender. Just saying.

The service was good and the food was good too but we were kind of disappointed by the attitude of the chef.You can see how they cook steak from the table and me and my friend both saw the chef literally threw the steak over the grill as if it was some trash.From there when the chef treats food that way in open space.we doubt that how the chef treats food in the back.
I went there a while ago for lunch. Nice atmosphere. Did not get the best service that everyone told me about. The twp appetizers (shrimps and scalopes) I ordered had the same sauce base and even looked the same. Both very plain and not as interesting as appetizers from other steakhouses. For a resturant like this, I would expect them to put more thought into each dish. A bit disappointed.

I came to HY’s many times and enjoyed the food in HY’s very much before so I bring my two sons here to eat steak. However, the experience this time was very disappointed. Salad and bread were as good as before. But the steak was very disappointed. I order the 20oz bone in steak but it was burned and tasted very bitter from outside to inside. The server explained to me that the bitter taste is because the charcoal on the top of the steak. He said if I don’t like the bitter taste then I should let them know before the cook it. But I don’t think anyone would like a bitter taste steak. Then the server required the chief to redo one for us. But the second one has no taste at all. I put many salt and pepper by myself. Our server explained me that maybe the chief wanted the customer to do whatever taste by themselves which I think it’s ridiculous.

The food was amazing we had the crabcake and sautéed prawns to start with the famous cheese toast, for dinner we had steaks and The evening was very nice. It was disappointing to see how rude the hostesses were upon entry and exit. I Didn’t expect that kind of treatment after spending that kind of money, I would have to consider elsewhere before returning.
