A very cool find for good eats at UBC for a reasonable price. As far as I could see, it was predominantly Asian cuisine (Japanese, Chinese/Canadian-Chinese, Korean, etc) and a Donair/Shwarma option. I chose to order from Grill Master, and would HIGHLY recommend it. Lots of options, with a good variety of vegetarian options as well, not too greasy, and (as someone who sits in the 10% of people who react negatively to too much MSG) doesnt leave you feeling bloated or with headaches....
Miyamae Sushi 宫前寿司 is one of the few stores that can serve food on paper plates, instead of in containers that look like non-biodegradable plastic, although miso soup and tempura sauce still came in a plastic cup with recycling label at the bottom. The #5 tofu bento is vegetarian, and serving is decent for its price! Owners (older lady + man) can speak mandarin. Other stores offer great value as well. This place is located in the basement and hosts around 10 restaurants (most are asian food places but there's one middle eastern place). The portion sizes are good for the price but most of the foods are quite oily. Vegetarian/vegan options are very rare but most places can accommodate requests.
