Really not impressed. The food was soggy, bland, and almost plastic-like. It was freezing inside with water dripping from the ceiling, flies around, and dirty dishes piled up by the bathrooms. Staff were rude and snappy. Won’t be back — consider this a warning.

Had a hankering for Chinese food and James did not disappoint! Smooth silky congee chased with fried silverfish, garlic fried squid, and spicy green beans. Just cannot best the sheer variety, tastiness and friendliness of James to boot, icing on the cake!

I’ve been coming to this restaurant periodically for a long time, and every visit until now has been excellent; delicious food, generous portions, always a favourite of mine.
On my most recent visit, however, I ordered the tofu rock cod hot pot and was surprised to find the balance very different. While the serving was still generous, there was much more tofu than rock cod. In the past, this dish has always been well-balanced, so I’m not sure what changed.
I’ll definitely give it another try, and I hope this was just an off day, because I’ve always appreciated the quality here.
What happened? Curry beef brisket use to be fire here. Now it s tasteless, vey bland, looks like they forgot to put salt maybe. Don't think it was fresh, has a slight sour taste.

Hot diggity damn, first time here. Parked a few blocks away like a dummy so had to whip in and out faster than gazelle getting chased by a cheetah to make our appointment afterwards but this might be the best chinese food I've had in 10 years.
It would probably take years to eat your way through the menu too not that it matters. 4/4 for what we had. I thought the whole get a t shirt if your bill is $130 was a silly gimmick but seriously considering going back and just ordering triple to get that shirt.
Proud to wear a shirt from a restaurant this good.

Finally had a chance to come to James on Hastings, the place where I see so many foodies blog & vlog about. It is OG old school, no doubt. Practically every dish is $28 or more. Portions are huge but everything was on the salty side. I appreciate a good old school meal but this was OK, didn't live up to the hype. There are others, if I could give 2.5, that would be my rating.

Food order never got through + they notified me a menu is not available after 30 minutes after we ordered
Fantastic food, the service was wonderful, and they just kept bringing out food...
A little pricey, but not bad for a proper sit down restaurant. For the quality of the food, it's actually an excellent deal.

Great Honger hang out late night snack. The owner keep the Hong Kong style menu system. The wall is filled with food pictures.
My family and I came for dinner, as an out of town family of 30. The restaurant was called weeks before our arrival to confirm they would be capable to handle the volume and we were assured they could. We arrived at 6pm which was out reservation time. No one took our orders for at least 30-45 minutes and even when the order was taken the waitress was very rude. Half of h our party decided to leave due to the lack of response to us. What made it so bad was other parties that came in after ours were greater with such urgency and respect. I don't want to say it because of or race but that is definitely what it felt like. I give this restaurant a one star but really want to give 0.
is perfect spot for delicious Cantonese food. One of Vancouver’s OG late night Chinese food for families or large groups!

My forever go to for my Chinese food needs
Came here after the spiritbox concert but a littler earlier than the show let out to avoid the crowds. We were hungry as can be and wandered towards it because of the good Google reviews. A Chinese man outside said we will never find better Chinese food. Holy mother of mercy, the food was next level delicious. James was also SO amazing and got us an extra drink order as we waited for our Ubers home. I can't recommend the food enough, I always order chicken corn soup when I'm sick cause it's so close to my home Greek chicken egg white soup, but this soup blew my socks off. If you want amazing flavors and great service, go here!!!!!!!! Seriously amazing!!!!!! Thank you James for the awesome most random late night dinner service!
