Do yourself a huge favour and DO NOT COME HERE. The king crab is abysmal, service disrespectful, and they scam the prices. Worst experience/food I've ever had in Vancouver.

Not even Gordan Ramsey could save this place. Not only is the food disgusting, the owner had the audacity to sneak in extra charges thinking we wouldn’t notice. When confronted, he stumbled over feeble excuses. I wholeheartedly advocate for supporting local mom-and-pop restaurants, but our experience at "Scam on Hastings" was nothing short of disappointing. Despite ordering their advertised 10-person course meal for our group of 8, we received portions suitable for probably only 6 individuals. Frankly, I'm relieved we didn't have leftovers, as I wouldn't even consider feeding them to the strays on Hastings. It’s disappointing to see Vancouver influencers praising such a dismal spot; perhaps they should reconsider their roles as food enthusiasts. My heart goes out to the loyal regulars who continue to support this establishment, as well as those who rated five stars.

Recently went here for their King Crab Combo promotion as seen on many Foodie IG Reels. One of my worst food experiences. We were upsold on a “bigger” king crab which we decided to go with. It definitely was not the same king crab we were shown as the one we got had very thin meat on the legs and portion seemed average. The owner probably brings out the biggest king crab they have in the tank to show guests and then puts it back to show it again to other guests later lol…. We were also charged more for the combo than the price advertised. Staff were friendly but it’s the food overall was average at most. Some dishes were not bad but some lacked flavour. I do not recommend coming here for king crab as you will have a better experience with similar pricing at an actual seafood restaurant. Unfortunately, I feel like we were scammed.

Worst restaurant.Do not trust the tiktoks.Hygiene issues.Horrible tasting food.Empty king crab.Scamed the prices.Imitation crab is better.Made a reservation a week ago for 4 people and they texted me pictures of the king crab set menus ($338/4 people). They asked me to call in to double check 2 days prior, so I did. They still overcharged us because they raised the prices, but they DID NOT TELL US prior or when we sat down. Didn't even say the crab would be accounted as market price. Took over 20 minutes for them to give us the bill even though we asked 3 times.

Koreans, please never come here. It's really the worst. I came here after watching TikTok...Frozen king crab with only the shell and the price was wrong. It's so smelly, fishy, and salty that I can't describe it.Rather buy Dungeness in T&T.Don't ever come.

I would recommend double check your bill and pricing. We came as a group of 8. We ordered a 10 person king crab meal combo ($598) - James upsold +$80 for the 2 extra lb on the king crab totalling 10lbs ($678).To sum it up: There wasn’t enough food for all of us … even all the extra add ons. Low quality of food, and lower portion size. The server tried her best, but being understaffed.. you could feel her stressed.James himself, totally disappointed us when he overcharged at ($743)!original pricing: ($598+$80 = $$678).. james overcharged us +$80 with tax and tip! Not by accident as he debated back too.+$80 overcharge, on top of +2lb king crab +$80, on top of extra person combo +$160 = +$320 was the extra adds on we paid for, but felt we didn’t get what we orderedDisappointing as we had high hopes for this place due to foodie influencer recommendation. We wanted to be transparent about our personal experience here.

James on Hastings more like Scam on Hastings . Same like a lot of reviews out there , we got upsold a 10lb king crab for an extra $80 from a 8lb that’s included in the 10 people set combo because apparently they only have a 10lb crab available which was fine with us. Food taste mediocre at best especially the damn crab head fried rice which was just blend and nasty , then James the owner had the audacity to add an additional $60 on the bill thinking we wouldn’t notice and when questioned had no explanation for it but to reprint the shady receipt . Customers beware , remember to check your bill carefully .

James Bond 001: the Golden GooseThe last time I been here was more than a decade ago and decided on this place over a few higher end places because i preferred to support the little neighborhood places more.Anyways heard they were have a King Crab special just like many restaurants do during King Crab season (to be honest, Neptune Palace at Brentwood offers a better deal and higher end atmosphere too).Anyways, here were the food I ordered;(King crab set menu for 4-6ppl $338 +$40 extra cause said crab weighted 1pound more)1. Drinks (can pops, lemon iced tea, etc.. or pitchers of beer). Charged $3.50 extra cause asked for a 3rd drink even tho there were just 2 of us. But technically we can have up to 4-6 drinks?2. Daily soup (apple with pork bone soup). Pretty close to tasting just like warm water with msg, one of the worser daily soup I had in a very long time. Failed!3. Steamed king crab legs and claws with minced garlics and green onions. Tasted okay and might be better if the ingredients were more eventually delivered and spread. Also seemed a bit rushed in prep and presentation.4. Deep friend king crab knuckles and body. Once again, very basic and simple, lightly seasoned and deep fried fast food style.5. Baked king crab with seafood curry fried rice. Besides the taste of the curry sauce, the rest of the tastes were lost somewhere just not on my taste buds. And the servers brought out 4-5 of them at the same time and seemingly just passing each table one who ordered king crab.6. Egg noodles mixed with king crab sauce. I only took a taster bite cause once again the servers brought out 4-5 of them at the same time and I went “hmmm…..” when I heard them saying ,”you give one to that table yet?” In Cantonese. I didn’t mind about the rice cause no customers touched the head but the leftover sauces from each tables?!? Hmmmm….7. Stir fried pea tips with garlic. Pretty basic, but could’ve used some “wok hay”8. Half Hainanese chicken. Okay, let’s just say had better ones.9. Green bean dessert soup. Came nice and hot which was good. Some work and effort were put into this, I liked it!This place is a very causal, family oriented neighbourhood restaurant (A renovation is definitely needed inside). There is a small parking lot out front and free parking on some side streets. The servers were friendly and tried their best to attend to everyone. Plus the owner was very engaging with the customers and working hard in helping with the service needs. As for the food, they came in generous portions but tasted pretty basic to me. Nevertheless I am actually a bit concerned with the egg noodle mixed with leftover crab sauce dish, did I got a random dish or was I just overthinking?!? Plus why did I have to pay $3.50 extra for a 3rd drink when the set was meant for 4-6ppl?!? And I had to pay extra $40 for the crab when two other tables with 6-7 ppl seated after me and ordered the same set and they didn’t have to pay any extras?!? (Hehehe I heard all the conversations in Chinese even thought I only spoke English during my visit).Overall, the food was pretty basic and average at best, plus it turned out to be not so good of a deal. With all the added extras especially when there were only 2 of us. There’s a Chinese saying, “I just became someone’s “Golden Goose”.P.S. rest assure it’s not the money but the principle behind the extra$
