I totally recommend this place I had the oyster tendon it was awesome and no it not the tendon you might think it's the name of the plate.

After many years of consuming bad, okay and delicious food, today is the day I start making a contribution to yelp! After just having a meal here I had a great experience and after I reading other reviews before coming here so I was a bit skeptical. I personally think this place is underrated. The service was top notch. The restaurant is very clean and has a good ambiance, but most importantly in my opinion the food was outstanding. I had a premium bowl with eel, shrimp, squid, green beans, and seaweed. The quality of the ingredients was excellent, as you can see in my pics, the portion was good and I did NOT find the tempura batter to thick ( I read in other reviews that they found this to be a let down). The eel was fresh amazing, the sauce they use was an additional nice touch but not overwhelming. Another bonus was the black bean tea. It had a good flavor and complimented the meal. I will definitely be returning here at some point and I recommend this to anyone who is looking for tempura Japanese cuisine!

It is nice that the food court experience becomes more pleasurable with better cutlery, packaging, etc. Take-out packaging of the Special Tempura Bowl at Kaneko Hannosuke surprised me in a good way, as it is immaculate. Unfortunately, that was the highlight of the meal for me. Food-wise, egg tempura was great; I can't say I've tried anything like that before. But everything else was very mediocre and unmemorable. It is a bunch of deep-fried items and plain rice, making a pretty dry combination. It was missing some binding element, maybe a sauce or something, and provided soy sauce wasn't enough, at least for my liking.

Enjoyed this tempura place a lot! The space is modern and cozy, a great match to the friendly staff who helped us when we dined in for dinner. We ordered the new Salmon Tempura and the Special Tempura Bowl. Both were yummy and quite filling! Each bowl comes with miso soup, so that’s always nice. If you don’t want the sauce on the tempura, you can easily ask for it on the side.

KANEKO HANNOSUKE is a must visit restaurant when you're craving crispy Japanese tendon tempura bowls! They have a location at 4567 Lougheed Hwy, Burnaby as well as downtown Robson1725 Robson St, Vancouver (for dine-in). We upgraded our Tempure bowls into combos which comes with tofu or steamed egg or pop. The tempura bowls come with a variety of tempura'd veggies and proteins...even the egg is tempura'd Our order: Ebi Tempura bowl Chicken Tempura Bowl We appreciated that the sauce came separately and we were able to drizzle it onto the tempura ourselves...helped keep the tempura extra crispy Overall it was a great experience, delicious food, and cozy ambiance

Went there around 1pm to skip the lunch time, server is friendly and let us know in advance food will take around 20mins. (I assume that is because food are freshly made after order)Not the best Ten Don I had, but is still consider one of the better one I had in Vancouver, will go back again.

They're serious about cleanliness! I felt very safe eating here. Food was very delicious, and the server was friendly and nice :) One thing I particularly loved about them was that they give you an option of the sauce to be on the side. I prefer my tendon NOT drenched in sauce so I really appreciated it.

Decided to drop by Kaneko Hannosuke while walking on Robson and had a WONDERFUL experience. I have not seen many tendon tempura style Japanese restaurants, and this one does not disappoint. It's always been pretty empty when I walk past, so it isn't hard to secure a spot. This restaurant has a special tendon bowl to keep the tempura and rice warm throughout your meal, and it's pretty fascinating to read about the history of it (on a sign right outside the door). I ordered the Inaniwa Chicken Ball Udon with a side of Salmon Tempura. The presentation was absolutely wonderful, I admire their dishware and the way the udon toppings were presented in a box. It allows for easy customization of the udon - for example, I was able to add a LOT of wakame because I love that. The chicken ball was delightfully tender and went great with the udon. I wanted to try the tempura since it's a staple here, and the salmon tempura was definitely worth it. Their tempura sauce goes along great with any of the tempuras. I'd highly recommend visiting this restaurant for the experience and the great food.

Kanneko Hannosuke is a cozy Japanese tendon tempura restaurant known for their rice bowls topped with perfectly crispy tempura Premium Tempura Bowl (18.95) Aiyu Jelly Lemon Green Tea (5.25) The Premium Tempura Bowl features their delicious conger eel, shrimp, kakiage (mixed seafood tempura), soft egg, and green beans on a bed of hot rice. I added miso soup, tofu, and chawanmushi to complete my meal. If you're feeling parched, you can also order a drink from Yifang right next door and they'll deliver your order to you as a Robson location exclusive. Overall amazing service, cozy ambience, and delicious food!

Review summary, the food is amazing, atmosphere is great, customer service makes you smile, this place deserves far higher reviews.I stepped into Kaneko Hannosuke, not having read the reviews, simply because the store front looked cute. It wasn’t until after I ordered that I decided to pull out my phone and check. At the time of me writing this, the review average is 3.8 stars. I began to worry, maybe I had picked the wrong place. It had been a long day, and I didn’t want to ruin it with some mediocre meal. Once my food arrived, I took a single bite, and was outraged. How could reviews for this restaurant be so criminally low? The presentation was created with care, the food arrived quickly, the lady who served me was cheery, and the food? Phenomenal. The distinct yet subtle flavor provides a experience that highlights the quality of the tendon. The “family secret sauce”, along with the egg, makes the rice into a meal by itself. The portions are fantastic, leaving you fully satisfied. They even provide a cute instruction manual on how to best enjoy your meal. The thought that a couple of customers with the palates of literal donkeys left low reviews brings me tremendous sadness, as it will hold back more of Vancouver from getting to experience such a wonderful meal. Hell, even their ginger tastes better than most places in Vancouver. If I could give a 10 star review, I would in a heartbeat. My expectations were far surpassed, and I am grateful I wandered into Kaneko Hannosuke without looking at the reviews first.

I would have given it a 5 star just was disappointed the rice wasn't fluffy Japanese rice, it was a bit broken and not as perfectly cooked as they do in Japan! Maybe it was a crappy batch of rice which sometimes happens! But still beautiful presentation tendon nonetheless! I asked for sauce on the side coz I don't like overly sauced food. The tempura was beautiful fluffy batter. Didn't feel overly sick and oily after the meal. Can't wait to come back to try the oyster Don which was sold out! I had the special Tendon, with white fish, shrimp, green beans, and I think bay scallops. I also had the combo and with the steamed egg, and cold tofu and miso soup! Everything was beautifully presented! The bowl of tendon was deceiving as it is indeed very shallow and contained less than you think! I liked the ginger and radish side dishes. Wish I got a little more. I guess in Japan ginger and radish you have self serve on the table.

This is my 2nd time here and it impressed me even more. There are other non Japanese tempura places with similar concept but I still love the freshness of the seafood, presentation, service and portions here by a long shot. Today’s indulgence was the udon & mini tempura combo and for just a mere $5 one could upgrade with miso soup, steamed egg custard and a tofu appy. Completely stuffed after this evenings dinner and their complimentary pickles were addictive as I had just a tad too much. If one is famished you can add on more seafood or veggies like I did.

Really solid tempura bowls! I ordered the oyster tempura bowl which came with tempura green beans, prawns, mixed seafood, seaweed, and soft boiled egg. The oyster tasted fresh enough and was not fishy. I had the sauce on the side which helped prevent the crispy tempura from getting soggy. Loved the side dishes as well, especially the kimchi-like pickle! It was not busy at all around 4:30pm on a weekday when I went, though it does take about 15min for the food to come out.

Restaurant is so clean, and presentation of the food is beautiful. The premium bowl had a huge piece of eel, but the eel was too fishy and the texture wasn't great. The chicken bowl was very good. Every bowl comes with a piece of seaweed tempura and soft boiled egg. The tempura batter is not greasy, and I didn't feel gross after my meal. The steamed egg was okay. Service was good! I would come back to eat another tempura bowl.

Wonderful dinner at Kaneko Hannosuke tonight with friends. We all truly enjoyed our experience. We were greeted warmly by two servers and they continued to follow up with us throughout the evening to ensure we were enjoying our meals and even showing us the cute signage on how to eat the tendon bowl (eat certain tempura first, then some rice and then half way break open the egg) and how to use the wooden spice box. I had the Oyster Tempura Bowl combo, my other friends had the Sea Scallop Tempura Bowl combo and Mini Combo with tempura and noodle soup plus tea from YiFang (which is delivered from next door to the table!). The tempura bowls arrived warm. I placed my hand on top of the tempura and could feel the heat rising up which delighted me. Tempura must be temperature hot to eat. The batter was light and crispy and each piece cooked perfectly. My favourites were the oysters and sea scallops which were soft, juicy and so delicious. The egg was golden and runny when split open. With the combo for +$5 included steamed egg (OMG, the best chawanmushi), miso soup and cold tofu. Understand that the tempura dishes I've eaten in Japan may never be replicated in Vancouver, this chain is close enough for me to enjoy. What I liked: -Relaxing, clean, and minimalist environment. -Hot tea in a thermos thus always served hot at the table and quickly refilled when asked -Refillable side dishes of ginger and a spicy radish. -Tea from YiFang Will be back.
