I love Vietnamese food and am not a vegetarian. This place was surprising and well on its way to converting me to vegetarianism or at least considering it as a viable option. The standout for me was the Dill noodle soup. First time I saw this on a Vietnamese menu and gave it a shot. Well worth it. The dill provided a subtle flavour elevating the flavourful broth. Well worth a try. The fresh spring rolls were huge and the normal pho soup was indistinguishable from its meat counterpart. Thumbs up to the chefs brave decision to go wholly vegetarian.

Not recommend. Very disappointed with the food today to be honest.

I was their customer for all 3 locations which are Ha Noi Old Quarter, Mr Red Hasting and today is Mr Red Broadway. I try every single dish on the menu so I know what the dish should taste.

I went to Mr Red Broadway today since their Hasting location shown up permanently closed. I ordered Bun cha Ha Noi and Cha Ca Ha Noi as my regular dishes when I come here. The Bun cha Ha Noi was totally disappointed, the meat is totally not fresh at all and for the first bite of the meat, you can feel the sour taste, which is absolutely abnormal. I let the waitress know and they explained it comes from the fish sauces and the papaya and carrot which is normal, but It is totally not this case. They end up change for me the different bowl of meat but nothing is different. It is literally not fresh meat at all. The fried spring rolls is full of oil with only carrot and vermicelli inside, you can hardly find some meat there. We end up not eating any slide of meat at all, try to finish the dish with noodles and spring rolls.

The Cha ca Ha Noi is also other disappointing for the flavour and taste. It is completely different with the taste I had in Hasting or even their old one Ha Noi Old Quarter. The fish is salty and spicy, cannot feel the freshness of fish, turmeric smell.
The noodles in both dishes are broken and funny things to have. We end up with the bill of $60 when both of us are not full and waste majority of the food.

Now I even have some uncomfortable stomachs.

I regret since they used to be one of the unique and authentic tastes of the Northern Vietnamese food in Vancouver and I feel so sorry for the lower and lower food’s quality day by day. I used to be a fan of their restaurant even wherever the location they open but I believe today will be the last time I visit them.

Both dishes we ordered are good. The decor of the restaurant is interesting and culturally Vietnamese.

So far, this is my favourite Vietnamese food in Vancouver. Such a stand-out from the other basic restaurants.

************updated experience***********

If you’ve read my review from two years ago, you know I love this place. I came back from time to time if I was in the neighborhood. BUT I am compelled to share that I had a really bad experience on Tuesday. I ordered the grilled beef in the leaf for lunch and I had diarrhea the whole afternoon.

So beef is safe to eat even when it’s not fully cooked. I believe most of us have tried beef carpaccio or medium cooked steak. So the only reason is that the beef I had was not fresh anymore.

My friend order the chicken soup pho which was always her go-to. It was so bland that she had to and also much chili oil to be able to eat it.

The food quality was very disappointing and food safety was worrying.

I debated if I should share this but I decided to because I would like the restaurant to guarantee the food safety and hope people avoid the risk.

Unfortunately, Hastings location has been closed however, driving 30min to visit this location is totally worth it.
