I was really excited to see a new deli in the neighbourhood, and stopped by for a full sized pastrami sandwich. While tasty, it was a very small sandwich for ~$24, and I was ultimately still hungry. At that price point, I’d expect a big sandwich or a phenomenal smaller sandwich, and this was neither.
I was under the impression that this famous deli shop had closed, until a good friend invited me for lunch, at the new location. I was looking so forward to getting another filling chopped liver and smoked meat sandwich, like I used to have, and then get another container of chopped liver to take home.
The new location looked really nice and with a larger kitchen. I counted 5 people on staff, though the place was albeit empty.
I asked for my usual chopped liver and smoked meat, for which the young waiter had to verify with management. I saw a huddle of the 5 people, and moments later I was informed that this is no longer possible. To avoid an awkward situation, I relented, and ordered just chopped liver on rye, with a side of french fries.
I was taken by complete surprise when my generous portion of french fries arrived, well undercooked barely browned and limp, evidently the oil was not hot enough to fry. I had to send my order back. The sandwich arrived shortly after, and I was taken by complete surprise and shock, at the meager portion of chopped liver within the two equally meager pieces of rye, this was less than half, of what I recall from the old place. When my fries reappeared, I noticed that they simply put them back in the oil, in lieu of a fresh batch, and they were still limp, and underdone.
I can only surmise from this embarrassing ordeal, in front of a good friend, that with the new location there is a significantly higher overhead. I can only hope that they will find a way to survive, in this competitive industry.
I am sad to say that I sincerely doubt that I will return, considering the changes I've experienced.
אני מצטער להגיד שאני מאוד מאחזב בכמות עבור מחיר ואני לא חוזר עד שתשפרו את המנות שלכם
Had a smoked meat sandwich on rye - taste was pretty good, but the value for money is off. Over $20 for a little sandwich and a tiny pickle spear... doesn't compete with many other sandwich spots in Van. Coleslaw is very tasty though.
Absolutely delicious. Kind staff. Sandwich was amazing.
I remember visiting their old location and was very much looking forward to trying their new location. However several things gave me pause after my most recent visit.
First, the new space with a dine-in area is beautiful. There’s a good variety of products to choose from. The staff was polite but seemed preoccupied when they took my order.
I ordered a large smoked meat sandwich to go. I thought they had made an error initially because for $24 this was a very small sandwich. I also couldn’t find the pickle so I thought it was missed. Turns out it was only 1/4 of a regular pickle wrapped in deli plastic.
The first guy I spoke to was kind, admitted it was a bit on the small size and took it back to the kitchen. The manager-looking fellow apologized. I waited for my new order but it looks like they just sent my original sandwich back out (see photo). When I asked a second deli staff, his response was “do you want me to weigh it for you? It’s 8oz.”
The thing is, though the sandwich is small, the taste is actually fairly decent. I get there’s inflation but I just felt like I wasn’t being respected when I was asking reasonable questions. There are better options in the lower mainland that are worth the trek. Best of luck with your business.
Stopped in because we have been waiting for the deli to open since 2024. Bought a pastrami sandwich on light rye to share with my husband. Delicious but very expensive at $24.00. They may have to adjust their prices to the competition in the area like Batard and Olivier who also sell sandwiches. Would like to try their other items. Welcome to the neighbourhood and wishing them every success.
I used to love this deli but I won't be going back. There was meat sitting out on the floor instead of in the cold case for the whole time I was in the store and the cheese I picked up had mold on the bottom. My smoked meat sandwich cost $19.50 and it had soggy bread that was not rye of any description I have ever had, a tiny sliver of pickle and they charged for the side $4.50 which was in a small side container. I know prices have gone up but this is just ridiculous.
Very tasty pickled beets, and Asian Noodle Salad! I also enjoyed the Manamin Cubes (wafer cubes filled with chocolate flavored cream) from the store. I look forward to dining in sometime!
best place on earth
First time I tried it, never went to the old location. Pastrami sandwich was decent, I'd come back.

Wow, wow, wow!!
I didn’t know what to expect on the first night offering dinner.
The meal was amazing.
It’s good to have another kosher restaurant.
I hope to be seeing you all at Omnitsky’s!
I’ll be returning very soon.
Tonight we had dinner which was absolutely delicious. We ordered the steak and frites. Tender 14 oz with flavors that wanted us to come back again with our family. Cannot say enough about how enjoyable the dinner was. It is by far the best Kosher restaurant here in Vancouver. Khol ha’kavod to Richard and the chef for making this a memorable experience.Wishing him great success in this new location.
I had a really negative experience today at Reuben’s Deli. I was excited to try, being a big fan of Jewish delis and living in the neighborhood. I walked in and was not greeted by anyone, no smiles…nothing.
The staff were unfriendly and clearly overwhelmed. It took a very long time to process my order and when I returned to buy something else, they started keying the order into their POS and stopped halfway through to deal with something in the kitchen. I stood there another few minutes (still not paying) before I finally said something to the (presumably) manager…a Filipino guy. I told him they need to get their restaurant in order and he gave me a weak apology and did absolutely nothing to rectify the situation. I clearly was not happy and nobody did anything. Throughout my time waiting, the staff all looked confused and miserable. I observed a few other people getting frustrated as well. In total I waited almost half an hour for my order. I understand this is a new restaurant and mistakes happen, but the staff really needs to try harder. If the manager had rectified the situation, I wouldn’t be leaving this review.
The food was not bad, my pastrami was pretty good (although it was cold and I asked for it hot), my wife’s schnitzel sandwich was just ok.
I really hope the owner is able to work out these issues, because this could be a great spot.
Hey Bobby give the guy a break, he just opened and has made a huge financial investment, he’s going to have some issues that will need to be sorted out, and I’m sure he will take care of them, try it again in a few weeks.
Today is my last day i’ll come to this location for food. 2/3 times they havent been able to serve a simple hot dog in under 25mins.
The staff has Zero communication and has Zero awareness of order history. Pathetic!
